I'm really pleased I found Foresteria Orsa Maggiore on this site. It is a very reasonably priced and really nice and clean 'women' only hostel. I stayed for 5 nights in October the 4 person dorm for 26 euros with shared facilities. They provide a good breakfast, plus you can use the kitchen to heat/store your own food. There is a supermarket not far - just over the Ponte Mazzini. They also have a laundry service for about 8 euro I think (it was cheaper than the laundrettes prices). The bathrooms were very clean, as were the rooms. There was an issue one morning with no hot water. I think the tanks take a little time to reheat if you follow someone else directly.
It's a bit of a trek to get to this hostel (as no close metro) but well worth it. Following the instructions on their website and checking out the route on google streets really helps too. It was lovely to stay in Trastevere. The area is full of cafe's and it felt village like even though it was choker with tourists. I felt safe walking back to the hostel at 10ish from the Cafe/Piazza area. The do shut the outside doors of the hostel at about 10pm, there is a bell to ring for access after this time. I got back one night after 10 and it wasn't a problem.
The garden cafe offered a wireless deal but no one could get it going. They did try hard and returned my money (when I asked). I wouldn't recommend eating at the restaurant downstairs - it was expensive for what you got, especially compared to the restaurants in the Piazza area.
There is only one computer but it's free to use. I enjoyed my stay at Forestieria and found the staff friendly and helpful.
The hostel is close to the Vatican and the ancient site. This is where I'll stay should I visit Rome again.
