“Great hostel in a great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2012

I am a middle aged woman and this was my first time travelling in Europe alone. I stayed here from Oct 13- 21st in a private room (203) and loved everything about this hostel. The room was a good size- high ceiling and equipped with a dresser, wardrobe and table and chair. The double bed and the pillows were comfortable. The lighting was a bit dull but there were 2 nightstands with lamps and for the amount of time I spent in the room this was insignificant. The clean bathroom with 4 private stalls was directly across the hall and one of the shower rooms was just down the hall. There was some mould on the walls in the shower room but the shower stalls themselves were always clean with hot water and good water pressure.

There is a breakfast nook and although the official opening time was 8:00 a.m. it was always open earlier and I was in there every morning at 7:30. Breakfast was much better than I expected. It was a little weird seeing white bread in a packet but when toasted was quite tasty. There was cheese, melba toast, yogurt, jam, cake, orange juice and 3 Lavazza machines that made the most incredible espresso. After breakfast was finished, the room was kept open until midnight providing use of the fridge and microwave. There is a pretty inner courtyard and a cafe (Bio Bio Cafe) on site as well as a restaurant that charges 8 Euros for a dinner that includes a beverage. I only ate in the restaurant once and was pleased with the meal.

Large hallways in the hostel double as a lounge with couches, 2 computers (free internet and WIFI)and some books and magazines. The front desk women were very helpful and provided city maps and directions. One of the women was very helpful in booking me an underground Colosseum tour and Virginia, the newest employee was very sweet and always smiling.

The location of this hostel is perfect. It is on a quiet street, only a 5 minute walk to the heart of Trastevere. Just down the street from Orsa is Villa Farnesina- a Renaissance Villa decorated with frescoes by Raphael (don't miss it). A short walk to the top of Gianicolo Hill with incredible views of Rome, 10-15 minute walk to the Vatican, Castel Sant' Angelo, Campo di' Fiori and Piazza Navona and the Pantheon. Colosseum was about a 25 minute walk. I walked everywhere from this location- probably Piazza del Popolo was the furthest at a 45 minute walk. I did not find it difficult to find the hostel. I followed the directions provided by the hostel- from Fiumicino took the FR1 train (heading toward Fara/Sabina) to Ostiense Station (8 Euros). From there took the 280 bus (1.50 Euros) to Ponte Mazzini and from there it was an easy 10 minute walk across the bridge and to Via San Francesco di Sales. The return trip to the airport was even easier as the bus stop was only a 3 minute walk from the hostel.

I met many nice women from all over the world at this hostel - some travelled with friends, some solo, some mother/daughters, some single, some married (don't quite understand last paragraph in previous review from Bhakti) and would definitely recommend this hostel to any woman. I enjoyed my private room as I am a light sleeper but the women I talked to who stayed in the dorm rooms all said they had an enjoyable stay and had no problem sleeping. I would return to this hostel in a heartbeat.

NOTE- On many of my trips I hear people talking about getting bitten by bedbugs. One of the women showed me some welts on her neck and shoulder area from where she said she was bitten but she was hesitant to say they were bedbugs. Her sister was convinced they were spider bites. I was bitten several times by flies when I was outdoors eating my lunch in the parks in Rome. I did develop some hives on my neck 4 days after returning to Toronto and was told they were definitely not bed bugs, more likely fly bites or an allergic reaction to the scented pillowcases that they use at the hostel. I'm just saying- not all bites are caused by bed bugs.

We stayed here from the 12 to 14 OCT 2012 and had a very good experience. Locating this place can be a challenge, you will do yourself a favour by taking a cab from the Termini station and to the airport, as public transport in Rome is horrible with just 02 metro lines and overcrowded buses wading through bad traffic.
This place is close to St. Peters Cathedral in Vatican city. The neighbourhood is very pleasant with beautiful bridges on the river.
Staff is very good and helpful. Many thanks to Virginia who helped us locate the place on our first and night and for booking a good taxi for us to the airport the next morning. This place is really clean and nice, the building is beautiful with a veranda on the backside, it has a feminist character to it.
Breakfast was decent, just didn’t like the idea of cheap plastic plates, cutlery and cheap plastic cups. Toilets and Showers were clean, just beware of the toilet locks, they don’t work sometimes and you can find yourself locked in for a long time if no one hears you screaming.
Overall an economical, pleasant and very safe stay in chaotic Rome, no complaints.
Most of the guests seemed either feminists or lesbian or both... lolzzz, not that I am homophobic or something, however too many women at the same time, all the time can get a bit boring 

stayed at the hostel for 4 nights and it was great. the women who stay there are all ages and all nationalities which l find very interesting, and as my budget demands hostels when l travel on my own l do not feel weird hanging around with just the young backpackers who frequent hostels. You can choose twin rooms or dorms that are big and airy, scrupulously clean. Showers are great and breakfast is included in the price which is very reasonable considering how central to all attractions it is.just a stones throw from the vatican which is essential as you need to get there early if you do not want to queue for endless hours. The staff are very helpful and friendly and l did not realise there was a curfew. l guess that is my age showing. The place sort of feels like a big boarding house, it is a lovely comfortable feeling.I dont know of any other women only places but l will certianly look for them now l have had such a good experience with this one.

Room Tip: If you are staying in the dorm try and get a bed behind the partition, in room 202 it is bed 5 as it...

I stayed here with a friend for a few days at the start of august. The hostel is a nice place, feels safe and clean. The dorm we were in wasn't air conditioned so was quite hot, but there was a fan and fortunately the heat wasn't too much of a problem. The curfew is a bit of an irritant, but, again, didn't cause real problems, just limits options a bit if you want to go out. I'm not sure it's necessarily a great place to come if you want to meet young travellers, as everyone we met seemed older and quite closed. Also, the breakfast wasn't great, compared to ones we've had in other hostels. But I would recommend the hostel for anyone who wants a calm place to stay, as long as you're not hoping to get life-long friendships out of it.

I stayed with my friend (both 40+) for 6 nights in July. It was my first time staying in a hostel and I was very impressed. It exceeded my expectaions. We stayed in a twin room with ensuite bathroom and it was spotlessly clean and spacious...beds dressed every day!! The staff member who checked us in was extremely friendly and helpul throughout our stay. The hostel was very peaceful and quiet and the garden in the grounds (with adjoining bar) was an added bonus. The location was fine..10 mins walk to St Peters Basillica (to access transport), 10 mins to Campo de Fiori and close to the lovely Trastevere area...walkable to most of major sites of interest. We ate one night in the restaurant on the grounds but were not impressed..better to eat out in wonderful local restaurants nearby. However for the first night a pizza from the bar is an option .Internet provided free on 2 computers but quite slow..also WiFi access very poor.

Room Tip: Twin room is more expensive but ideal for comfort.

We stayed here a few nights in a private room. The place is well located near the Trastevere District with its lovely restaurants. The rooms faced onto the courtyard which has a decent restaurant (with cheaper meals for guests) and a bar if you don't feel like venturing out too far on your first night. We liked the place but found the bathrooms (shared) really unclean. The must only clean them once per day, and the shower was clogged with hair. The breakfast featured decent machine espresso (and was free) but was otherwise comprised of cornflakes, bread in a packet and yoghurt. Very simple.

My sister and I have heard many, many horror stories about hostels in Rome so I am so glad we booked here. The rooms were really big and spacey (which is a real plus, when compared with the usual cramped hostel rooms stuffed with bunks). They even provide free breakfast and the staff is very kind. All the women who stayed here were really considerate and quiet, so we slept well. Location is great as well...between central rome and the Vatican in an awesome night life area with lovely restaurants and bars. The location really can't be beat!
