With all the good reviews, we decided to end our european trip at Roma by staying in this hotel.

Having looked at the photos & the website, we thought it was a new & stylish hotel, however, we stayed in on last sat for just one night and the experience was TERRIBLE.

First of all, the room isn't new as it seemed on web, the wooden floor is old and cracked everywhere in the room, and it was dusty, which gave me a very poor first impression while entering the room.

Then it was about the lack of air-conditioning!! OMG, can you imagine paying over 120 Euro to stay in a hotel without air-con?? Luckily the weather is not burning right now, but to avoid the flies, we can't open windows/door of the terrace, which essentially means we are being forced to suffocate.

Nonetheless the TV reception was so poor and the speed of internet was so slow too.

When we called at reception to complain about the air-con, the gal said it has been broken down for the ENTIRE WEEK, and they can do nothing about that (not even to provide some free drinks at mini-bar to cool us down!), and they sounded that they are NOT going to do anyth to ease the situation or to at least pacify the guests.

Worst enough, we have to turn the lights off inside our room to avoid being over-heated.

Come on, such condition can be worst enough to compare with sleeping at hostels and those hotel paying much less.

We would feel a lot better if we were being notified before we arrive or during our check-in, but NO, sounded like they try to cover this up not until the guests discover it themselves and then you are left with no choice but to tolerate such situation.

Strongly NOT recommend to anyone, unless u want to waste your money on a place to ruin your trip!

Very nice and attentive staff, but they never got our room-service orders correct. Lack of Italian on my part, English on theirs. Clean and modern, cool bathrooms. Seemed most of the guests were there for business purposes. For sight-seeing in Rome, its location was a little far away unless you wanted to take a taxi or the Metro (only one block away, so that was easy). The price was right, the breakfast was good but a little pricey. I wouldn't recommend it only because of it's location relative to the sights in Rome. Otherwise, though, a very nice hotel.

The above reviews are true - the hotel is convienently located near the subway, although service shuts down at 11pm, so if you want to stay in Rome later than that, you'll have to take a cab, which can be expensive.
The rooms are very pretty and certainly above what you get for that price elsewhere (although the location obviously plays a role in the price). However, September was a very warm month and the air in our room was not working. They sent a valet, not an engineer to fix the problem because no engineers were availabe until 4pm the next day. He acknowledged that the air wasn't cold and showed me a different room where the air was also warm. He then said all the rooms were like that. I informed the front desk the next morning and the air was fixed. However, it proceeded to make a loud click everytime it shut on and off (the air coming on and off was also loud), which was every 30 seconds, regardless what temperature the thermostat was set at. It kept me up all night. I informed the desk again the next morning and they said they would fix it, which they did not. After coming back that evening and finding it still clicking, I informed the front desk that I had two sleepless nights and was not inclined to pay full price. The manager agreed and said I would receive a discount when I checked out. The third night was the same with the incessent loud clicking - no sleep and turning the air off would have made the room unbearably hot. When I checked out that morning at 5 a.m., the front desk would not honor the manager's promise to compensate me and said that they would not contact her because she was asleep and that I had to pay full price. I informed them that I wouldn't pay and if they charged my card unauthorized, I would report it as fraud. Finally, the guy at reception called the manager who authorized a night off the bill. Personally, this was an issue of principle more than the money due to the fact that I was treated rudely and got no sleep. I noticed a May 2008 post about the air conditioning, but relied on the manager's response that the problem had been fixed. Botttom line - other places are definitely less hassle and less combative when it comes to resolving guest problems.

  • Liked — Room was well decorated
  • Disliked — Staff were rude, air conditioning problems not resolved and technicians were not available to solve them

The Pulitzer's proximity to the Rome metro system is excellent! It's about a 3 minute walk through a perfectly safe part of town. You walk by a few shops including a scooter store, small grocery store, and a film place I think. There's also a post box right on the way to the metro for all those Colliseum postcards! I never felt unsafe whatsoever during the three minute walk.

The hotel is located at the Marconi stop of the B (blue) line. It's about 8 or so stops to Rome Termini and takes maybe 15 minutes or so. When exiting the metro station, turn left and walk about 800 feet. The hotel is on a corner on the left side of the street.

Served from 7:30 until 10, the breakfast was the best we had out of all the hotels we stayed in. There were fresh orange, honeydew, orange, pineapple, and kiwi slices; sliced smoked turkey cold cuts and deli cheeses, eggs and bacon; rolls, breads, and croissants; a few different cereals and milk; whole fruit; small baguette sandwiches; a few different juices, coffee, and water; and nice jams and other condiments. The breakfast staff was pleasant and the decor, matching up with the rest of the hotel, was quite modern. They had some interesting modern music playing too, it was kind of techno-esque, but nothing was played loud enough to bother anyone. I didn't even notice it until halfway through my first breakfast. Most breakfasts included with hotel rooms in Italy seemed to be some breads, butter and jam, and coffee. This was the first and only that offered a heartier selection.

The room was nicely decorated and we had a small balcony. The bathroom was above average for an Italian bathroom. Black tile with white fixtures. It had a full tub, which was a first, that had this odd half shower door on it. Other than a little water on the floor, it worked just fine. Good water pressure and all, nice detachable-type shower head. The toilet and bidet were rectangular but they worked the same as their oval counterparts.

The bed was comfortable, a little more supple than some of the very firm (hard) mattresses in other hotels. Don't get me wrong, it couldn't ever be confused for saggy or too soft. Nice little minibar in the room with some five ounce glass bottle Coke and Sprite for four euros each. Everything in the hotel is pretty much brand new with a very modern decor. Interestingly enough, all pictures on one wall were put right next to each other in a big rectangle on the wall. It was very odd, but I ended up liking it.

The hotel was great, friendly staff, can't beat the location unless you want to be able to walk to everything, and if you can spend the money, I definitely recommend it!
