We stayed at this hotel at the end of March. It is a very small hotel, taking up one floor of an apartment block.
It is very new and spotlessly clean. The power shower was fabulous!
The location was also a very easy walk from everywhere.
We only had one issue with the hotel, and that was that our towels were taken to be washed and not replaced. As the hotel doesn't have a reception (you have to contact the reception of their sister hotel close by) it took a few hours to have this issue sorted out.

I've not long been back from this strange little hotel. It’s hidden away in what is really a small apartment block with each floor belonging to different companies, don’t let this put you off though it has its own secure entrance hall on its floor and cameras along all the main areas. These aren't as obtrusive as other guests have made them out to be, I wouldn’t have noticed them if I hadn’t read other reviews on this site before going, and id imagine anyone else who has worked in a busy office environment wouldn’t notice them either. I’m sure these are just a precaution in such a small hotel which isn’t staffed all day.
The rooms are lovely and far better then I had expected in Rome, they are both clean and in beautiful modern condition. I do admit the showers are a bit sparse on hot water, but they are warm enough to shower in comfortably. Our balcony didn’t offer much of a view, but its nice to have it open and have some breeze going through.
The breakfasts were of the traditional Rome variety, which means very bitter juices a cake, toast and a selection of cold meat and porridge type dishes, this was a little odd to me but "When in Rome ...".
The lady who helps with breakfast and cleans the rooms couldn’t be more helpful with good English and a very happy outlook she gives you a very welcome greeting each morning. She was also accommodating allowing us to leave our luggage inside the secure complex for the entire day on our day of departure.

Then there is the hotels shining feature, its location. Being almost right next to (although not close enough to hear) the termini (train station) you’re right in the heart of Rome , with almost every tourist sight within walking distance. I think we saw everything we went to see and didn’t have to get a single bus/taxi for the entire time. This includes the across town trek to the Vatican which with the map supplied by the hotel was superb, as the map gives all the road names as well as graphical representations of tourist attractions, which is a big bonus in a foreign city and means you don’t have to go far to see something and really helps you make the most of any trip.

I'd certainly come to Rome again, and id stay here again without a doubt. It’s a lovely clean hotel in the heart of Rome where you want to be, what more can you ask for?

The hotel is very tastefully decorated, and very clean. Two positive points that you note as soon as you walk in.

The reason I have rated this stay so badly is because of a trail of events mainly with the service...

First of all, we had no hot water in our bathroom in the first night. We spoke to the lady who is in charge of breakfast and she called the management. Management arrived and said they would look into it. At the same time we also explained that the safe did not work.

The next day our hot water was fixed so we were happy with the level of service.

On our second evening, we came back to a note in our room saying please can you change rooms before the morning. We then had to move all of our gear and settle into a new room. No thank you, or apology for in-convenience.

The next morning we had the same problem with no hot water and the heater in the bathroom would not work. Unfortunately the breakfast lady was not there so we had to call a number that they provide if you have any problems. This number was absolutely useless! It's a way for the hotel to hide away from any problems without facing you. We called numerous times, and we either got hung up on, or they said they were doing something about the hot water / heater and never did.

After four nights, nothing further was resolved and we never heard back from them!

We wanted to call the number to get suggestions for good local restaurants, but again, they either didn't answer or could not help.

There is no wireless internet here from the bedrooms. You can get it if you stand in the hallway right next to the main computer. Because this hotel is so small, this really wasn't good enough.

Overall, this hotel is obviously very new and their teething problems are far away from being resolved. They are trying to be cheap and have no-one on site, but this really proved to be a problem for us. I will not be going back to the Merulana Inn again.

We loved this place. Bit wierd when we first arrived, after finding the outside, walking up the old marbled stairs, we rang the bell a couple of times, and then the door to the inn spookily opened by itself.
The Inn was deserted but we found our name and info waiting for us outside an immaculatly presented room, let ourselves in and as we congratulated ourselves on such a find, the owner rang us on the room phone to say hello and asked if we needed anything!
There are plenty of cameras in the Inn but as we used it as a base it didn't bother us, it was lovely to return to at the end of each day.
The only time we saw or heard anybody was at breakfast, (which was plentiful, nice coffee)
Merulana Inn is the nicest B&B we have stayed in anywhere. The rooms are as lovely as the photos promise, and the location was great. We never used public transport, and soaked tired legs in the full size deep bath each night. Mini fridge and kettle a bonus, big squashy pillows, climate control, flat screen telly, really really nice place.

very nice little place...and looking at other places in rome it was definitely good value for money...rooms beautiful with everything needed....heating was provided via aircondicioning system....overall very cool...the only thing we could not get used to are all the cameras placed in the corridors...made you feel being watched all the time and there are already enough cameras on the streets of rome...other than that I would certainly recommend the place and the city of rome....AWESOME!!!
