My wife and I loved our stay at the Townhouse Pantheon 3e and would recommend it to anyone going to Rome. The location was excellent as all the tourist attractions were close in proximity and we could see the Pantheon from our window. On a scale of a 1 to 10, my wife and I give the room a rating of 9 reflecting the location and size of the room. We were in Room 1 on the 1st Floor (or 2nd floor per US standards). Simone at the front desk of Hotel Abruzzi was friendly and extremely helpful in answering all of our questions as well.
The size of the room and bathroom are good, and compared to its Hotel Abruzzi brethren, about 30 - 50% larger approximately. Like previously stated, the location is the best. Our room was right above the Tazza de Oro Coffee House, and in the background during one of the Pantheon scenes of the Angels and Demons movie. From our room you can make it to Piazza Navona in about 8 - 12 minutes…the Spanish Steps in about 12 - 17 minutes. Largo Argentina the bus hub around 3 - 5 minutes. Everything is really close and this proximity made our vacation better…I would recommend a location closer to the sites vs. saving a little bit of money by choosing a hotel that is further out, the extra money will be well worth it.
The only potential downsides include the Air Conditioner (A/C) not being up to American standards and the slight noise from down below if you have the windows open and are easily disturbed by noise (people talking, dishes from the Tazza de Oro being moved around, etc.).
The room does have an A/C, but does not emit cold air like we are accustomed to in the U.S. Lucky for us the weather in early May is great and not too hot…when we were in the room during the afternoons, in addition to evenings and nights, we would open the windows and the cool temperatures and nice breeze outside cooled us down, as such the A/C was not really needed. However if we would have stayed during the Summer perhaps our review would be different. Nevertheless the A/C issue was irrelevant to us.
The second issue is the potential noise…however by closing the windows, most if not all of the outside noise is eliminated. Personally, I enjoyed the noise in the background as it made for a lively atmosphere, however my wife thought otherwise. In the evening, you can hear the people down below at one of the bars and in the morning the baristas making cappuccino and espresso in the morning served as my alarm clock. But like I previously stated, closing the window will serve as a good barrier to keep the noise out.
One checks in at the Hotel Abruzzi which is right around the corner and faces the Pantheon. Once you check in they show you to the room…one thing to note is that there is no Elevator / Lift at the Pantheon 3e. Security was good as we had three keys to get to our room. One key for the main entrance, another key to access a set of rooms, and another key to open our door.
Like previously stated, the Pantheon 3e is a very good place to stay and would definitely stay there again.
