“Truly unimpressed”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2014

I had high hopes for Periili. I have lived in Rome for several years and am not afraid of indifferent service, so long as the food is good.

The decor is outdated, but this could conceivably add to the ambiance. The main problem is not the dated interior, or harassed waiters, but the terrible food.

13 euros for fettuccine with artichoke. It didn't even taste as though the pasta was cooked in salted water. Flavorless and almost comically bad.

“Good home style Roman restaurant.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2014

Went here for our first meal in Rome, very busy and felt a bit like a fish out of water.
After finally getting a seat and ordering meal staff warmed up a bit and meal was enjoyable.
Only had 1 course each with beer and water bill was 36€.

“Not for us”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2014

We gave it a try, as it was recommended to us as a local, authentic restaurant where local Romans eat. We had an indifferent welcome, and felt very much the 'tourists', like fish out of water. The place is very 'authentic' (some might say, dated, old and shabby), with a rather musty odour. The choice of menu is limited. The owners and waiters were quite friendly, however we felt that we were viewed with suspicion, and provided a talking point to the staff and locals alike all evening. It may be very traditional and 'authentic', however it was not for us, so we chose not to revisit.

“Authentic Roman Trattoria”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2014

Finding an authentic trattoria in Rome, where actual citizens of the Eternal City eat, can be challenging for the tourist. Fortunately, my companion, the Cultural Comtess, did a fair bit of sleuthing to discover some neighbourhood gems on our most recent trip there. Perilli is truly authentic, memorable and utterly delicious. The lighting is bright and the decor is not in any way 'contemporary', but the cooking is first rate. The room is busy and full of locals. Try the Carbonara, it is rumoured to be the best in town and I must say it was outstanding. A veal stew, similar to a blanquette de veau, simmered in white wine, rosemary and vinegar was rich, tender and perfectly cooked. Dinner for two with a great bottle of Ruffino Chianti Riserva Ducal Oro and three courses was under 100 euros! Wow.

“Best Roman Trattoria? Yes, indeed!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2014

The service was great. The waiters were attentive. The food was marvelous. Carbonara is one of the dishes which is a must try. As I am writing this message, I am thinking about going back to the restaurant for that delicious Carbonara. Beef fillet was perfectly grilled. No complaints on this place. If you are reading the reviews, do not hesitate to try the remarkable cuisine of this restaurant. FYI, do make reservations because the restaurant tends to be booked quite often.
