“Cheap but still not worth it”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2013

Horrible. Absolutely horrible. I tend to roll my eyes at reviews that state, "I don't understand why everyone else thought so highly of this restaurant," but it's time to be a hypocrite, because I honestly do not understand why everyone else thought so highly of this restaurant. Overall the appetizers were okay good (the antipasto was average while the bruschetta al pomodoro was excellent), but the entrees varied from average to just plain awful. The veal was horrendous 00 it tasted like cardboard (an opinion seconded by the couple eating next to us who had ordered the same dish) and the gnocchi tasted like overly sweet dough and was DROWNING in the tomato sauce. The panna cotta was good, as was the wine, but overall it was not a pleasant experience. The waiting was some of the worst we had had in Italy -- we had to hail down our waiter multiple times to remind him of the wine we had ordered (that said another waiter seemed much more efficient and attentive).

Giving the restaurant two stars instead of one because of the appetizers, dessert, and very cheap prices. But all in all the food just isn't worth it if you hope to have a complete meal.

“Best place we ate in Rome possibly Italy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2013

My sister and I just returned from an Italy vacation visiting Venice, Florence and Rome. We visited Vecchia Roma while in Rome and were very impressed with the wait staff, meal and restaurant as a whole. Our waiter was very attentive and suggested a very good choice of wine. We started with the Jewish Artichokes, they were not only beautiful, but best artichokes we have had throughout our trip. I wish we would have taken a picture for posting as I can't find pictures on the web that would give them justice. We had many artichokes on our trip fixed in different ways and these were absolutely the best and different with the crisply outer leaves. For our entrees, my sister had the Bucatini amatriciana (had to ask for it as was not on the menu) and I had the Cabonara which was outstanding. Definately the best cabonara I have ever had, just the right amount of egg in the sauce. Sometimes I feel that chefs go overboard on the egg and this was perfecto. We then had the pumpkin flower and the strawberry dessert that is similar to tiramasu which completed our meal. Cannot say enough about this restaurant. This was definately the best place we ate in Rome and maybe even Italy.

“Disappointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2013

We were recommended to this restaurant by friends. The setting is somewhat formal, but lovely, especially for a special occasion. The food was average, but not exceptional. We ordered bread and before we had emptied the basket, a waiter took it away and brought us a refill, which we had not asked for. At the end of the meal, we were charged for 2 baskets of bread.....8 euros. This sleazy tactic left a bad taste in our mouths and we will not return because of it. How foolish are they!

“Absolutely love it, will return!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2013

We stayed in Rome and every night we ended up eating here. They found us a table even when they were all reserved and the staff was wonderful. The food was authentic and it was great to eat amongst the locals. We can't wait to visit Rome again just to eat there!

“Excellent choice for Sunday night”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2013

Thw highlight was fettuccine with pistachios and a smoky mozzarella. Unique and very delicious. Prices were reasonable for Rome and service was friendly and helpful. Not full of tourists but locals spending time savoring the food.
