We returned to Il Matriciano after an absence of six months to see if sitting inside in the winter it was still as good. Luckily we had booked (Sunday lunch) as the place was completely full of local families and buzzing. Nonetheless the welcome and service were charming and as efficient as we remembered. We were given their famous artichoke dish as a complimentary starter, so really didn't need the excellent mixed antipasta! Then we had the rigatoni carbonara (not quite as historic as the tagliatelle carbonara of last time) and the tortellini funghi porcini (good but not creamy enough). We rounded off with the amazing tiramisu and had enjoyed a good and reasonably priced bottle of wine. So, not quite the "wow" factor of our first visit, but still one of our favourite places in Rome.
