“All of the Cost... With None of the Pleasure”
Harry's Bar is located on a fashionable strip of Via Vittorio Veneto, which boasts other charming cafes (Cafe de Paris, for example), the Hard Rock Cafe, and the United States Embassy. The cafe has outdoor and indoor seating, and offers lunch and dinner menus, as well as basic breakfast items. They're open every day, including Sundays for coffee (in the morning). Celebrities have graced Harry's Bar for decades; the cafe sports pictures of Audrey Hepburn, Jack Nicholson, etc... all dolled up at Harry's Bar in Rome.
Some friends and I had the misfortune of choosing Harry's Bar for Sunday coffee (then lunch) when everything else was closed on an August Sunday in Rome. We had lackluster cappuccinos for 10 euros each, and while the outdoor seating looked charming, we had enough bees, wasps, ants, and car exhaust to make us wish we'd chosen indoor seating. The "quick" lunch that we had was tasty, but not worth the price. I live in Rome, so I'm used to paying prices typical of a Western European capital... but I've had meals three times better for three times cheaper. The service was friendly (and unlike what I've read in other reviews, plenty attentive). I still wouldn't come here again.
If you are in Rome, and can't find any other places open in August, then go to Harry's Bar if an expensive, unimpressive coffee or meal is what you are looking for. Otherwise, make the choice to find one of the other thousand great places in this amazing city.
