If (like me/us) it's your first trip to Rome...I cannot imagine a better area to serve as "home base"

Residenza Domizia isn't hard to find (as per another review) and its just a few steps from Piazza Navona's northern Taxi Stand !

If you can find the swanky Raphael Hotel...your very very close !

We stayed in the "other' ohter building "236" (the one wiht the breakfast room and elevator)

Everyone was nice, everything was close to perfect... I liked the price also. No idea why there are so few reviews ?????

This is an excellent choice and we got a peek at the "quad" room - WOW you should see it's bathroom and Roman sized Tub...

Oh and while its all nice here are the two features I did not expect and really appreciated....

1. Well stocked mini fridge - Thank You !!!!!
2. Fantastic water preasure which made for my best Italian shower.

If you're into baths/showers - The "Quad" at "236" WOW !
Next time even if solo.... I'm booking the QUAD.

In closing... the area is not as "packed" as Trevi, the restaurants are fantastic and close (other great eating areas...steps away)
Quaint street and interesting shops and people. If you're looking for a B&B ..Piazza Navona's best has to be ....Residenza Domizia

  • Liked — Piazza Navona and the Art in the B&B and my Room, water preasure, well stocked mini fridge
  • Disliked — that I had to leave after one night, not having stayed there all 3 nights of my Rome trip

Residenza Domizia is located at 14, Via dei Coronari with an annexe at no. 236. We stayed at no. 236 - an apartment on the other side of the street. The rooms and ensuites were spotless and a good size. Via dei Coronari is charming.
We asked for 2 sets of twin rooms but on arrival the twin beds were made up as doubles. Housekeeping sorted this out the next day. Continental breakfast is adequate, but the dining area is tiny. These are easily compensated for by the location; situated around the corner from Piazza Navona and within easy walking distance of the Vatican,Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps and Pantheon. About 40 mins walk away are Victor Emmanuel (all roads seem to lead to Victor Emmanuel) and the Colisseum. The staff are friendly and efficient - contacting me in advance to see if we wanted to be collected from the airport. I would readily recommend Residenza Domizia.

I was a little leery when i got to this hotel, the elevator was one of those 10th century - 2 person contraptions. Let me tell you that was my only issue, rooms were clean, bathrooms - pet peeve of mine - exceptional.
Loved the idea of receiving breakfast in bed and the restaurant obliquely opposite is excellent.
You are in the best neighbourhood with a metro station on the corner about 10 steps away and walking distance to Termini if you want it.
From this hotel it is really easy to get around and the STAFF ARE PHENOMENAL.

  • Liked — Cleanliness and location
  • Disliked — TV channels - but that was my issue throughout Italy

LOCATION: Couldn’t be better. If you don’t stay here try to find a hotel nearby. This is in the best area in all of Rome. The best area is between Piazza Navona and the Pantheon. Walking distance to all sites and near the best squares for dining. Some streets in good walking distance to sites are scary and this one is charming and quiet.

BED/SHEETS/PILLOW: Very comfortable bed, not too hard or too soft. Sheets are fine but nothing luxurious. Pillows are on the thicker side and nothing special.

LIGHTING: Would prefer more light in bedroom, but lighting in the bathroom is good.

BATHROOM/SHOWER: Shower has good water pressure and can be made very hot if desired. Shower is small.

TOILETRIES: Great! Much better than expected and could be the kind you want to take home.

CLEANLINESS: The entire hotel, rooms, and bathroom are spotless.

A/C: In room, but we didn’t use.

CLOSET SPACE: May just be enough space for 2 people to unpack everything.

STYLE OF ROOM: Charming. Everything is new as this hotel was just opened March, 2007. Wood floors are beautiful. Not a “wow” property but even those that expect the best won’t be disappointed with this simple but comfortable room. Our room in the reception building had a stone bathroom floor and our room in the other building was wood throughout.

QUIET/LIGHT: Can hear footsteps in the rooms above, and some rooms have the breakfast area right outside the door. I strongly recommend getting a room in the building with the receptionist as opposed to across the street, yet even this room you can hear the receptionist working. A room next to the breakfast area will wake you up at 8AM because people eat directly outside your door. If you cant get a room in that building, request to be as far away as possible from the breakfast area.

FOOD: Breakfast has 2 cereals and a choice of a few meats and juices. Not a huge selection. The breakfast area was uncomfortably small with the tiniest tables I have seen in my entire life. It may be more pleasant to bring food back to your room. There is no restaurant here for lunch or dinner. Breakfast ends at an earlier than normal 9:30A.

TV/INTERNET: Small flat screen in room with satellite. Must be over 400 channels but only 2-3 are in English (if that). Was told there was wireless internet in room but I couldn’t get it to work. There is wired internet in the room that is fairly quick. My apple computer only worked in the building that doesn’t have the reception there.

SERVICE: The staff is present M-F until 3PM and part time on weekends. The staff is pleasant but I wouldn’t work with them to plan your time in Rome. On the day of check out we were woken up when we received 2 phone calls and 2 separate knocks on our door at 8:00AM to tell us to leave the key to the housekeeper. Our 2nd and 3rd stay here that wasn’t an issue.

COMMON AREA: The main common area is the check in area (not a place to hang out) and the breakfast room. Most time will be spent in your room.

TIPS: This hotel is such a great value. We left this hotel for a few days to stay at the very pricey Raphael Hotel next door and we came back here (it was booked for the weekend). Unless you require pure luxury, this room is an excellent option. Given the price of alternative options in the area I will be back here my next visit to Rome. I just don’t think the other hotels are worth US$300 more than this hotel charges to also be in the best area in all of Rome. I strongly recommend a room in the same building as reception since the noise at the other building is very loud at 8AM for breakfast. The downside to the building with reception is you have to carry your bags yourself up approx 15 stairs. In Rome, you really want to be in the heart of the action and not reliant on public transportation. Stay here, it’s such a great choice, just either stay in the main building or be an early riser.
