My wife and I stayed in Suite 308 at The Orange Hotel for our wedding anniversary. The room had a double aspect. We got a price of €205.00 per night on hotels.com.
Positives
Great location, close to The Vatican only 5 mins walk from St. Peters Sq.
Rooms were clean & tidy
Roberto the guy on the front desk who was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable with good English
Rooftop terrace was interesting
Huge bath in the room
Effective A/C
Negatives
Rooms were very noisy with traffic (but I think you will get that in most central Rome hotels).
Rooftop terrace was locked early in the evening
No bar
Mini-bar was pricy
General Observations
Breakfast was basic, but OK.
Be prepared for lot's of orange in the rooms, that's why it's called the Orange Hotel
TV Channels for English were usual Sky News, BBC News and not much else
Limited Parking
Limited access for disabled travellers
Tips for travellers
Get a bus ticket for €16 from the Red bus tour people - (110 Open), gives you hop on/hop off all day long at all the major tourist attractions. Closest stop to the hotel is just in front of St. Peters Sq on Via Della Concilliazione. Make sure you have plenty of cash as they often don't have change and won't let you ride unless you have the correct money.
There is a good shopping street running parallel to Via Cresenzo with some good mens shirt shops and cafe bars (Via Cola di Rienzo).
Wander over to Pia Borgo where there are some nice restaurants where you can sit in the street (be aware that if you are non-smoker, you will be surrounded by smokers as you cannot smoke inside as per UK). This will remind you of a typical Italian street and has a lovely atmosphere at night and on a Saturday morning.
Can recommend a lovely patisserie on Pia Borga which did lovely coffee, pastries and other tasty bits for breakfast.
There is also a Scottish themed pub which serves McEwans lager, Guinness and other beverages if you get fed up on Peroni!
If you go to The Trevi fountain, there is a lovely traditional family run Pizza restaurant just opposite, which is very reasonably priced.
Overall The Orange Hotel met expectations, it's good to use as a base if you want something a bit different, but not so suitable if you like to sit in public areas, sipping coffee with hotel staff waiting on you.
