La Porta Magica is a pension, bed and breakfast type, run by an Italian. Located opposite the Termini, at the via. It's difficult to find the pension bcos there isn't any sign. It's located in one of the building (number 219) which you have to take a staircase, ring a bell before the owner comes to you.
Room is ok, clean and tidy, comes with air-condition, is as good as any 2 star hotel in Rome. It's shared bathroom. The overall entire apartment is very clean, you can use the kitchen, and there are 3 rooms in the apartment. The bathroom shower's water pressure is not strong, sometimes hot water, too hot, too cold. I guess it's the problem of the building. Can't expect much from a pension.
However, I must say, the pension is cheap, at 80Euro (peak season), most important is cleanliness and it is very near to Termini which is important to those who are taking Terravission Shutle (4am) to get to Ciampino. Walking distance at night is about 15mins to get to the other end of the Termini.
Overall, quite a nice stay although Termini is a shabby area. But dun expect to be posh. It may be hard to find the hotel too...better get the address. In Rome Termini, you need to have the building number to find the place. It took me 1 hour just to find the place after having called the owner who spoke English with Italian accent (confused of what he said too).
The website photos is exactly what you can expect. Clean and tidy. I made reservation through the website and paid the deposit via paypal. Careful you have to tell the owner you already paid the deposit and you pay the remainder. Produce paypal and email evidence.
Other than this little worrying but manageable transaction, everything is fine. It's a budget accomodation bcos I don't wanna pay so much for a hotel which I will end up worst than a pension. If you see reviews of many 1-2 star hotels in Venere.com, you will notice many bad reviews.
I would rate La Porta Magica as a must for budget travellers. Not suitable for honeymoon couple, OK for those who do not wish to pay more than 80 Euro and it is a must for those who wants convenience to walk to Termini for the Terravision shuttle.
