In July 2008 I have booked 11 rooms for the period of 1 week circa in Sep-Oct 2008 for my wedding guests.

Franca, the lady at the reception told me that it would not be a problem, that they had plenty of rooms to accommodate my request.

When September arrived we discovered that they sadly messed up all the bookings and they did not have reserved rooms for us. This resulted in to moving people every single night (some stayed more than 3 nights) into different hotels and rooms that they have special agreement with.
Given that we wanted most of our guests staying in the same hotel an close to each other, that was a disaster. Family and friends were split, and this led to confusion as to where people were staying, etc Considering that most of them have travelled from very far, no one was impressed with them.

This is not what we expected, we gave them over three months notice to reserve rooms; people would like to enjoy time off going sightseeing and not going to pack cases and move every day; they did not apologise or acknowledge the fact that they mistreat us.

You can understand how upset I was, it was happening in preparation to my wedding, and in my own town!

Some other points for which I would not recommend this place are below:

- Most of the rooms are very small with unsettled wardrobes, I wonder whether they have ever had a Health and Safety assessment.
- staff did not speak any English and were very intrusive. Some of my friends were disturbed early morning by their cleaner banging on the door.
- Fridge is absent or not working
- Air conditioning in some of the rooms consists in a noisy fan or where it is catered for it is not working.
- Overall dirty
- breakfast consist of coffee and croissant in a bar on the other side of road.

I understand that in this kind of business, mistakes can happen, but I do not think this was a simple mistake. Rather an example of what happens when a hotel enjoys a fantastic position in Rome and however bad it is, it will always have customers. Incredible lack of respect for the tourists!! I try to be as concise as possible: a couple of friends getting married in Rome in October. 5 August 2008 - I called the San Daniele Bundi to ask for availability. They confirmed availability and requested a fax with details and bank/CC details. I sent the fax straight away. I tried to call several times in the following days to make sure they had received it and they were always very vague. Once they even told me not to worry, that the room was confirmed before asking who I was and what dates I had booked for!!! 3 faxes and 3 emails later, I finally managed to get a reply. 2 weeks before the wedding, bride and groom went to the hotel to make sure every guest had a room. Check-in day: A ruffled lady in the courtyard, without saying much (I am Italian, my partner British) walks us to a nearby pensione (Adas, very welcoming and organised, by the way) in Via Cavour, next to the Colosseum and drops us there. We check in, visit Rome, meet our friends and have a good time...The next morning, the lady at the Ades told us that we had to check-out because we were only booked for one night and that they were already fully booked for the next (The same happened to 3 other rooms booked by our friends). OK, so we went back to San Daniele Bundi, where they told us to go to another hotel, this time not as close to the centre and that they would pay for our taxi ride. Other condition: at the end of our stay, we would have to go back and pay them for the stay. Taxi ride: 14 Euros. New hotel: Excellent (Hotel Major Aventinus on the Aventinus Hill, near Testaccio and Trastevere) and cheaper. The manageress told us that we were only booked in for one night. Luckily, 5 minutes later a couple left the hotel and we managed to book the other 4 nights, but for that , she said that we would have to pay her directly. Fine for us. Still, as a principle, I wanted the taxi ride refunded by the San Daniele Bundi for making us waste a good part of the day and for the trouble. Of course they initially refused, so I really made myself heard and finally got my 14 Euros. I never shouted so much in my life (when in Rome you do like the Romans)!! San Daniele Bundi Hotel is definitely a hotel I wouldn't recommend. If you want to be close to the Colosseum, go to Hotel Ades a couple of doors further up in Via Cavour or, even better, go to the Hotel Major Aventinus (very posh area, 5 minutes walk from Metro, simple rooms with no tv - who needs it when you have such a wonderful city to discover! and even slightly cheaper. Good stay in Rome!!

  • Liked — nothing
  • Disliked — The fact that they have a big lack of respect for clients. They are very disorganised and when they make a mistake they blame others when it is clearly their fault.

Had a reservation made in January for a May stay. When we got there they first lied that there was "water problems" with our rooms. They finally admitted to overbooking. Sent us to a lower class "dorm" style place out side of of the downtown area and then tried to charge us the same price! Had a "intense" conversation with them when it came to checkout on the bill. Be very careful if you book a room here.

Positives: Location, Price and Cleanliness
Negatives:
Our reservation was made in January through Venere.com, so of course we had a confirmation number. Upon arrival we were told only one room was available because the "water was out." He finally admited they overbooked, because he was being caught in multiple lies. My parents stayed at the hotel, while the four of us were shuttled to a hostel 5 minutes away, outside of the city and no where near a Metro. The hostel had no A/C, TV and a shower head ABOVE a toilet and sink! Only by persistance did we make sure the hotel paid for our taxi shuttle to and from the hostel to meet my parents at the Bundi. The next day we arrived back at the hotel to be told only one room was available and the other couple had to stay across the hall at Rosetta!
To add to this wonderful experience... upon checkout the gentleman (who apparently overbooked the hotel) told us the first night would be taken care of. Of course this was not. Instead they wanted to charge us 20 euro more for the two rooms at the hostel! Taxi cab rides were deducted from one room by an employee and owner was trying to say that this was a discount! Unreal. After 20 minutes we were finally able to get them to charge us the original rate for the first night which even that was unacceptable since it was a hostel outside of the city!
No communicaton between staff. Rome is definately a city you need to be careful of when it comes to stores, restaurants, taxi cabs and hotels. Someone is always trying to rip you off.

Oct 15, 2007 | Trip type: Friends getaway

We booked the hotel through romeby.com. The hotel was slow to confirm that we had a room ( we had left it quite late to book a triple room - not a good idea!) We also asked them to arrange a taxi to meet us as we were arriving about midnight and couldn't be bothered with buses etc. (cost 80euro for return journey from Ciampino) They were waiting for us and turned up on time to take us back.

Hotel itself is very near Colosseum and we walked everywhere (including to Vatican and Trastevere). Our room had a double bed and a single bed - very cosy as probably only 30cm between beds. Seemed to be reasonably clean. We overlooked a very narrow street behind the building but couldn't have window open as too noisy (couldn't hear street noise with window shut). There was air conditioning so not a problem. However I would recommend earplugs to avoid hearing the other residents and people at reception. We could hear people talking, showering etc in the 2 rooms either side of us. The en-suite with shower was fine. There are only 5 rooms and a small reception. It's basically a converted appartment on the 3rd floor (I think) There's no lift but you're only carrying bags up and down once. From the street there is a massive wooden door with a brass plate to the right of it with the hotel name - very easy to miss. We got given vouchers for breakfast to be used at a cafe down the street a short distance and across the road - only a croissant and tea/coffee.

  • Liked — location
  • Disliked — noise from other rooms - people weren't noisy, the walls didn't block the sound of even conversations
