For someone who doesn't want to splurge on a five-star hotel or pay a premium just to be right near the Trevi Fountain or something, Domus Victoria is great. This is a very simple guesthouse right near Santa Maria Maggiore and right in front of the Vittorio Emanuel train stop. The area isn't touristy in the least, but I disagree with the people who thought the neighborhood didn't look safe to walk in. There is a very popular restaurant, Trattoria Monti, right on the other side of the block. The rooms are clean and a good size with a private bathroom. The bathroom is quite small (we kept bumping into the walls of the shower), but it doesn't look anywhere near as bad as some of the photos I've seen of other cheap hotels with shower "areas" curtained off. Towels aren't replaced daily, but the room is cleaned out. Our TV didn't work but it's not like you go to Rome to hang out in a hotel room anyway.

This is a basic (but not uncomfortably spartan) place to stay that offers a great value for the money. If you want amenities and a 'central' location, go ahead and pay for them. But if you want just the basics with an easily accessible location (you won't be using the metro much anyway, you can walk everywhere), this is the place. Other 'hotels' in this price range look kinda terrible and get bad reviews, but this was perfect for us. Not gross or ghetto at all. They give you breakfast tickets that you present to a pizzeria/bar/cafe down the street for a croissant and a capuccino. It's like a 10-15 minute walk to the Colosseum.

If you're around during the day, Flavia is extremely helpful with pointing out some not-so-mainstream tourist attractions. There is a computer with internet access to be used free during the day, but Elena/Flavia take it home with them in the evening, so you're on your own there.

The only problem was the door is pretty thin so the noisiest part is hearing other people open/lock/close their doors. There is a tiny elevator in the building. You'll be carrying four keys with you, and your door will have to be locked/unlocked by key only, even from the inside. Also, the hotel is pretty hard to find - it's in a building in a small courtyard behind some anonymous doors along the piazza. Keep that in mind when you look for it.

Our stay at the Domus Victoria was the highlight of our trip. Flavia went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and comfortable. When we arrived she spend almost an hour with us pointing out good restaurants, gelaterias, attractions and bars on a map of Rome that she provided. Also, the airlines had lost our bags and she called the airline, gave them her cell phone number (!) and met them at the hostel when they dropped off our bags so that we would not have to wait around all day for them. This gave us the entire day to tour the city. Also, the rooms were clean, lovely and a short 5 min walk to the Colloseum/Forum. The neighborhood was convenient and friendly. We had picked up some flowers in the market and later in the day we returned and Flavia had placed them in a vase for us! I would highly recommend this hostel to anyone looking for a quaint, comfortable, convenient, friendly stay in Rome. I have traveled to nearly 30 countries and Domus Victoria ranks at the top in terms of overall satisfaction with my stay.

We spent 3 nights in Domus Victoria and enjoyed it very much. The staff,Flavia is very nice, helpful and reliable supported me in all questions from the reservation date by mail, sms, I never had the feeling that something is uncertain.
She gave personal advices what is worth to see, where to go,where to eat and you could rely on her.
I recommed also the private car pick up what they organize. It's little bit expensiver than train by 2 persons but was very good that somebody took you from door to door when was tired.
Rooms are clean, quite, friendly. Usually we went by foot but metro is in the close as well.
Price is also good comparing other possibilities.
I think as a hostel it has everything what a hostel can have, they do their best, recommend for everyone!

I arrived at the train station from the airport about 8-30pm and walked to this B+B and it took about 25 minutes because i got a bit lost - maybe should have got a taxi or metro , but i never felt threatened walking about this area.
I've read a lot of bad reviews about the Termini station area but it is no different from the rest of Rome - unfortunately there is graffitti everywhere !

The accomodation is part of a building over some shops and is a bit of a culture shock. The huge door opens onto a courtyard and there are 4 doors into different parts of the building (Domus Victoria is straight ahead on the left). Once you get inside it has the smallest lift i have ever seen , so if there are a few of you with bulky luggage it could be fun. However i'd rather squeeze into the lift than climb all the stairs.
Once in the guest house it is very nice , with big rooms and good air con. Breakfast is basic but this means you can dine out more with a great selection of restaurants.

Once i found my bearing i realised there is a metro stop virtually right outside. The Rome metro system is not huge but can get you to most of the sights , Vatican , Colesium , etc

So all in all this a great budget accomodation for seeing the sights of Rome.

We spent 5 days in Rome and stayed at Domus Victoria.

This is a good place for a reasonable price in Rome. Rooms with view on a small interior courtyard are very quiet. Rooms equipment is new and well adapted. Breakfast is simple but good. Ideally placed: 5 minutes walk from railway station Termini and 10-15 minutes walk from Rome centre.

It has been a pleasure to meet Flavia who was always helpful and very nice.

We can only recommend the place to anyone.
