“Perfect location and value for money!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2015

The location and the value for money was just amazing to reach the Vatican City on foot. The breakfast table within the room was just the icing on the cake to enjoy full privacy. The room was bright, clean, equipped with free wifi and with a stunning view on the Cupola by the balcony.
The organization can definitely be improved as we had some weird misunderstandings at check-in and no clear communication was left to the person in charge at the moment of paying, which needed some time sorting out. I felt I had to "chase" the owner a little... But I guess this is just a little flaw in comparison to the great stay we had!

Room Tip: Ask for the room with a view on the Cupola!

I love Da Maria Jose a San Pietro B&B! I consider it my home in Rome. It is so close to Vatican City that you can see St. Peter's Basilica from your room. The owners are the nicest people. If you are in Rome STAY HERE you will love it!

Bed and Breakfast Da Maria Jose a San Pietro is a lovely little gem in the great city of Rome.

I don’t usually stay in B&Bs without a personal recommendation. After a couple of friends stayed here earlier this year, however, and recommended it highly, we decided to give it a try.

We arrived into Termini train station and rented a car (but Termini is very crowded!) and drove to the B&B. Google Maps was able to tell me, step by step, how to get there without problems, and it took about 20 minutes in heavy afternoon Rome traffic.

The bed and breakfast is located approximately a mile or so from the Vatican in a quiet residential area. The building itself is an apartment building, and the property is a large apartment suite on the 4th floor which has been converted into 3 lovely little rooms for guests. When you arrive, you literally feel as though you are entering your own temporary apartment house.

The first night we stayed, we did not have a room with its own bathroom, but this was okay. The room itself was large, and decorated in shades of red and white, with a breakfast table within and a cute little balcony. When we went outside on the balcony, the cupola of San Pietro (St. Peter's) designed by Michelangelo, was right there, rising above the cypress trees, like it was floating above the city itself. Gorgeous view – everyone who lives in that neighborhood must feel very content to be able to see it and be so close!

For breakfast, the proprietors put out an assortment of fresh breads and croissants with a few types of dry cereals, and there is cold water and juice in the small fridge, and coffee available both in your room and in the hallway snack area.

The shared bathroom in the hallway was small, but very clean, and it was usually free whenever I needed it. The other people staying in the B&B with us tended to be young and active and out most of the day, so it was usually very quiet.

The owners both spoke English and were very pleasant and helpful – they went out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed and enjoyed ourselves. We learned that there was a supermarket approximately 5 minute walk away, next door to the B&B apartment building is a small, family-run fruit store, and around the corner is a pharmacy. But I was glad we did not have to navigate the area much with luggage, as we drove. I would suggest take a taxi if you need to transport more than about 1 or 2 bags.

We walked from the B&B directly to San Pietro, where thousands of people had gathered because there was an audience on that day, and it took us about 10 minutes to reach the piazza.

The second night we stayed, they were able to move us to a room with a private bathroom. This one was called the “Blue Room”, and it was decorated in shades of lively blue and white. The balcony in this room was even larger than the previous room, and leaving the doors open brought in a nice crisp breeze so that we only had to use the air conditioning for brief periods during the heat of the day. I took so many pictures of the dome of San Pietro from the balcony!

In any case, the beds in both rooms seemed new, and slept well, and we really enjoyed the view from the balconies. We stayed for a total of 4 days, and really felt like we were at home here. We walked from the B&B toward San Pietro, over the bridge Ponte Vittorio Emanuele near Castel Sant’Angelo to Piazza Navona and then the Pantheon, and it only took about 30 minutes.

There aren’t many restaurants near the B&B but the breakfast is good and substantial enough to get you out of the door and into exploring the city, and once you’re out there, you can go anywhere. B&B Da Maria Jose a San Pietro is a wonderful find, and well worth the money. The immediate surrounding area is NOT touristy at all – it is quiet and residential, with working families and older people, and I always felt safe, even though there was a bit of construction on the street, and the residents seemed to do their best to ignore the fact there were tourists in their midst and go on about their business in a normal way. It gave me a real impression of what life could really be like, living in Rome. This B&B is a lovely little sanctuary in the great and awe-inspiring city of Rome. We really enjoyed our stay here and thank the owners Alexandra and Amedeo for their gracious hospitality.

We visited this lovely B&B on a short trip to Rome. We were pleasantly surprised at the location. It is very close to the Vatican City which is a must when in Rome. We had a clean, airy, and spacious double room with a small breakfast table in the room. We were supplied with a simple breakfast of croisants and coffee (good italian espresso coffee). The host was very kind and polite when we arrived and throughout our stay. They even showed us all the 'hotspots' on the map and off we went. This is a nice place to stay and for the price, worth it.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a Vatican view.

We started our trip to Italy with a 3 night stay in this B&B. The hosts were very friendly and quick to help out with any of our needs. Breakfast in the morning was excellent and we really enjoyed the terrace overlooking the San Peter's Cupola. It was also a nice area to enjoy a drink in the afternoon or evening.

The location of the hotel is ideal for hitting all the main attractions of Rome. We were able to walk to all the highlights and the Vatican City is just 5 minutes away.

If you are looking for a good location, great service and value for money this is your place. We would happily stay here again.
