We stayed here for 3 nights at the end of August. It is unbelievably close to St Peter's Square and the Vatican - about 150 metres.
Ok, so that makes it a distance from the Centro Storrico area, but if St Peter's is your thing you really won't be disappointed.
There are several restaurants and bars in the immediate vicinity, all cheaper than in other parts of Rome. There are also shops, patisseries, cafes, in fact it's a regular neighbourhood area, where life seems to go on without any hint that you are so close to so much history.
The hotel itself is comfortable and clean. Rooms are basic, but as a base to stay in they are fine. There is no tv or tea/coffee making facilities, but the aircon was welcome. Downstairs is a bar, tv room and a nice quiet garden to relax in after a long day on the streets of the city. a Continental breakfast is served in a pleasant room by obliging nuns!
Having stayed near to the Pantheon previously what I loved about the Madri Pie was how quiet it was at night. A good nights sleep is assured.
If you want to be close to St Peters, then this hotel is ideal, and a good price for Rome. If you want a bit more luxury, and closer to the historical centre then it might not be for you but it's still only 20 minutes to Piazza Navona, the Pantheon etc.
