“Good Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2012

I stayed in this hotel back in November 2012. Hotel was clean and tidy. Bedroom was fine. Nice bathroom with everything needed. Glasses provided, no water or tea making facilities. Mini bar in room. It was plenty warm enough in hotel. Bed were fine, but only one pillow. Rooms were quiet, not too much noise from the road. The hotel is off a small side road.

Restaurant only service breakfast. Breakfast was continental style, with some cooked food. Buffet style. No dinner available in the evenings. Bar was ok, although the opening hours seemed a bit odd, it seemed to be closed more than it was open. Bar is next to reception, seating area is around reception, and on the floor below reception.

Reception were helpful, giving directions and maps and hints for nice restaurants nearby. There are lots of restaurants and bars within walking distance. The Colosseum is within walking distance too. There are lots of restaurants near the Colosseum too but these are more expensive.

Some taxi drivers had not heard of the hotel, so worth taking a copy of the address.

I stayed in a single room and it was TINY. It was just large enough for the bed, so I ended up having to put my luggage in the entry way near the door. The breakfast buffet in the morning was good, although lacked hot food items other than eggs. I'd call it a continental breakfast deluxe because there was a wide variety of pastries, fruit, and cereal.

My two biggest complaints: the beds! I had a hard time sleeping each night because I could feel the springs in the bed poking me! The other issue was the noise coming from the recreation center/school next door. I had an inside room that looked out onto a basketball court. There were almost always people out there on the court and if they were loud, you could hear it through the hotel windows into the room. I arrived on a Saturday afternoon and there was music blasting so loudly that I couldn't take a nap. BRING EARPLUGS.

Considering the price (around $75 USD per night), I was satisfied with my stay overall. The location was perfect because it's right near the Manzoni metro station, which is 2 stops from Termini where you can connect to the B line. There aren't that many good restaurants near the hotel, but you can always hop on the metro and go to a different area (Spagna, etc.). The jacuzzi tub in the bathroom was also a nice treat after a long day of site-seeing.

Definitely not a 4 star hotel (there aren't even any bellman at the front door, no restaurant, and no spa); however, it's a great option if you're just looking to have a nice place to sleep in a central location.

Room Tip: Get a room that faces the street to avoid noise from outside.

We stayed here for 3 nights. Best breakfast variety out of all the hotels we stayed in Italy. Rooms were very clean however a little tight. Very good service from front desk. We were walking distance from the Colosseum.

We stayed at ESJR during late October and got wonderful weather for the whole week. Hotel is conveniently situated 3 mins from Manzoni metro station. Tram and bus stops are about equal distance away to the other direction of Via Labicana towards the Colosseum. Tramline doesn't serve very well if you're going merely to Downtown. It goes downwards to Colosseum and turns to southwest heading for Pyramids where turns back again. Use buses 85 and 87 - they go to the Old Town and beyond. If you need taxi ask receptionist to call you one - they'll do it gladly.

Rooms are modern but quite small. AC is bit too efficient - you can't get temps over +21C. If you leave the window open - AC doesn't start. We figured that out when wondered that at Reception.

Bed is comfy and firm. There is a small fridge which is filled with all goodies. Snacks, water, juice, beer and chocolate. You pay them when checking out. Free WiFi is reasonable fast everywhere in hotel premises.

Staff is friendly and helpful and co-operate in good English.

Breakfast is awesome. Salad, Fruits, Cheeses, Cereals and of course toast. Warm sausages and bacon together with scrambled eggs. Yoghurt and raisins. Don't forget all the bakings : cakes, pies and many more. You could easily eat too much !

There is a drink bar at the Lobby but it's a bit pricy. Barstools are on a seethru glass - quite surprise if you find out that when already sitting.

Someone complained that there is not any restaurants near the hotel. This is not true. You can find several eateries in 3-5 min walk in all directions from the hotel. Nearist ATM is on the corner of Via Merulana and Via Labicana near the tram/bustop about 3 mins away.

I would recommed this hotel for all kinds of travellers. Prego !

disappointed in hotel, certainly not 4 star and very expensive , breakfast basic ,no outside space, dark back street ,photos of courtyard give false impression. Effecient staff and generally clean, bedrooms very small ,however this acceptable in a big city,,Location not good if you do not like long walks .restaurants in the area not great.

Room Tip: school yard side, street side very dark and noisy

This hotel is in a good location, easy walk to Colosseum and anything else from there, surprised that there was no food other than a basic menu, which wasn't very good, so eat out, the rooms are small, so go out, it's not a four star hotel, but the location is perfect and the rooms are neat and clean, just a little cramped. Staff really helpful. Would recommend, not for a romantic break that involves the hotel, but to see Rome, its perfect and reasonably priced, safe location for walking home late at night and so close to other places to eat, where the food is to Italian standards, so the hotel restaurant, or lack of one, isn't a problem, just be prepared!
