“Very Good B&B”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2014

We stayed at ABC B&B while traveling through Rome and it was really good and we enjoyed our stay. I would definitely recommend this B&B to anyone traveling in Rome. Rome is a busy city and it is easy to choose the wrong accommodation. We were lucky to have chosen ABC B&B. The staff is very friendly and the b&B is also very well located and we mostly walked to all the tourist attractions and the B&B is also close to a metro station which makes traveling that much easier.

As our first trip in Rome we found ABC B&B online and were not disappointed the only thing we didn't see the bell ring in the building as we thought it would be advertise! Not. Very nice welcome, friendly and very useful owner and the gentleman (from El Salvador sorry didn't get his name) who served us our breakfast was very friendly and useful with our way around. I would definitely recommend this place as it was close to Ottoviano Metro and close to the Vatican. Room/bathroom were cleaned and nice continental breakfast and snacks!!

To further the comment of the last reviewer, the rooms are not only smaller than portrayed; they are also smaller than advertised. We rented the triple room which they advertise as 26 square meters. When we were brought into our room we could immediately tell it was not the advertised size. So I asked the man checking us in, Gildo, whether this was the correct room and said that our room was certainly 26 square meters. Either this was a lie, or this person does not properly understand how to calculate surface area.

We booked this room using a popular online 'booking' site so we complained to them. They said it was not their responsibility to ensure the claims of the hotels they promote. The ABC B&B later offered us to leave and they would refund us the remaining portion of our stay. Clearly it was not in our best interest to spend our vacation time searching around for a new hotel which would then overcharge us for a last-minute booking. This was not an acceptable solution to this problem.

On the last day of our trip I went to a general store and bought a tape measure to set the books straight. There are two rooms with the triple room booking: A bedroom with two beds and a small bathroom. The bedroom was exactly 3.08 meters by 4.02 meters. The bathroom was an odd shape so I rounded up to be generous. It was approximately 2.5 meters by 1.5 meters - large enough for one person to stand comfortably. These two rooms come to a total of 16.13 square meters. This is almost 10 square meters smaller than advertised.

When looking at their fire escape map, it looks like they might have one room in that building which is larger (room #6), but unfortunately this is not the room which we stayed in. See attached picture - we stayed in room #4.

The bedroom was generally clean, but there was some evidence of mold on the wall of the bathroom by the water tank (see included picture). Notice it is not far from the towel hook.

To be fair, there were a few positives to this stay. The cleaning guy Mario was genuinely pleasant and nice to chat with (easier if you know a little Spanish or Italian). Also the location is only one block from the Metro A line and only a short walk to the Vatican. If I were to rate this stay without taking into account the deception about the room size, I would give it somewhere between a two or three out of total five.

Despite the few positive points, this does not excuse lying about the room size. These owners know that they can entice guest into staying there thinking they get decently sized rooms, and then they can do little but complain when they get there. This bait-and-switch trick is deceitful and unacceptable and we would not stay under their roof again. You may still decide to book this hotel, but just understand that the rooms are not as big as they say. And buyer beware-- where there is one lie there is usually another.

Easy to find the street but not lie actual building, very small signs on building and apartment. Welcomed by a friendly and helpful guy. Shocked at how small the room was, barely enough room to walk past the end of the bed. Same was true of the 'dining room' and the kitchen was literally a cupboard!!!! However, having got over that shock, the whole place was immaculately clean, the staff were always pleasant and helpful, rushing to open doors us. The kitchen cupboard had a fridge full of juices, fruit and toast that was yours for the taking and tea/coffee making facilities 24/7. I don't know if I'm being naive and all accommodation in Rome is this small. And if that's true then this is as good a place as any to stay.

We stayed in this B&B in 2010. We were very pleased with our accomodation. Fabio welcomed us, he gave us a lot of usefull tips. They organized a pick up for us from the airport and a transfer back to the airport, for an additional sum, not too high.
This B&B has a very good location in a quiet neighborhood, literally 5 minutes from Vatican, 2-3 minutes from metro station.
The room was cleaned each day, sheets were replaced at least 3 times during 7 days we stayed there and towels more then 3 times, maybe even every day, I really can't remember. And also cleaning ladies were very kind.
It can be a bit noise in the morning, but it depends of the people who stay in the other rooms. It's hard to sleep longer then 8 am, but that can be an advantage, as you will start earlier your daily tour :)
Definitly it's great value for the money!
