What a great little hotel located on the 50 yard line in the historic district of Rome. Spotlessly clean, comfortable and convenient. We were able to check in at 9 AM after coming off of an 11 day cruise. The breakfast area was cheerful and the selection was good with something for everyone. My only small complaint was that if you had a room facing the front of the hotel, there was some street noise if you had the window open. However, it quieted down by bed time. They also have the coolest 100 year old elevator. You expect Sidney Greenstreet or Peter Lorre to come out when the door opens. We took it for a ride to the top floor, played around and briefly got stuck. The neighborood was safe and there were several small restaurants nearby. The metro was 7 or 8 blocks away but the bus was just around the corner.
There was no request they couldn't handle. Needed an extra pillow? Got it right away. Needed a bathroom scale to check the weight of our luggage? Bingo. We were leaving early on Sunday, before the breakfast was served. They opened the breakfast room an hour early just to accomodate us. All this was done with a cheerful smile.

When I visit Rome again? I will stay here and I suggest you do to.

Very convenient location in the Monti area right in the middle of Rome - you can walk to most of the sites. A 5 minute walk from Cavour metro station.
It is in a narrow street and doesn't have a large sign so get directions from their website. Parking would be difficult. There are plenty of restaurants nearby but I wouldn't recommend the one two doors up the street.
I paid €140 for a single room - it was quite small and old-style but perfectly adequate, had a good modern bathroom and even a small balcony overlooking the hotel's patio. The air conditioning was not very effective and the TV only had Italian channels. Everything was clean.
Breakfast was continental but reasonable selection.

The Hotel Artorius is on a small street near Via Nazionale. Most of the rooms are located on the first floor (which would be the second floor of the hotel with the first floor being the lobby). There is an elevator, which we used with our luggage, but otherwise we just used the stairs, as it was only a short up and down walk. The room was large and had a balcony. Not all rooms have a balcony, but ours did. The service at the hotel was excellent, with all the staff speaking good to excellent English. Their breakfast was excellent, with many choices to get the day started.

I would suggest anyone going to Rome obtain a bus route map as we found this mode of travel easy and inexpensive. Via Nazionale is a main drag and has a number of bus routes that travel on this road making it easy to find one. We never used the metro system (only two lines). We ventured into a station and found it dirty and smelling of urine. The buses work just fine and an additional bonus is that you see more of Rome.

A restaurant nearby, located at 41, Via del Boschetto (the hotel is at 13 Via del Boschetto) "La Taverna dei Monti" is also excellent and reasonable.

What more could a traveler want....a good clean hotel, excellent food nearby, and located a short distance from transportation to anywhere in Rome. Try it...you will like it.

We absolutely loved our stay at the Artorius. I was concerned that it wouldn't be very nice due to the pictures. This room doesn't photograph well, but the rooms are beautiful! They are huge, and the walls are fabric covered. The people who run this hotel are extremely helpful and friendly. The breakfasts were delicious and ample, and the capuccino was delicious! This hotel is so much fancier and nicer than I'd expected. You will be lucky if you can book room here!

The Artorius is a great, small hotel which offers very clean, comfortable and affordable accomodation. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it and would definitely consider here again. Rome is expensive and after reading piles of reviews of hotels where the rooms and bathrooms were miniscule, we were surprised by the very sizeable triple room we had, with a good sized private balcony. No view from our balcony of Room 109 but it was nice to have somewhere to sit quietly with a book. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very adequate and everything replenished very quickly if supplies ran low. We used the supermarket opposite to buy teabags and milk as there are no tea/coffee making facilities and the hotel staff were happy to supply us with hot water, teapot and cups whenever we asked. Beds were comfy, shower a bit tempremental but fine. All major attractions are within walkable distance and there are some very nice restaurants close by. We particularly liked Chicco di Grano, at 5-8 Via degli Zingari which is just minutes away, a very busy restaurant full of Italians which is always a good sign! Also enjoyed good food at Grillo Brillo which was much quieter.

We had the hotel arrange a pick-up from the airport which cost 50 Euros. It worked well but I have to say the drivers in Rome are truly scarey. TWO mobile phones, taking and making calls, accelerating and braking hard, aggressive driving ... Be prepared! To return to the airport a few days later to pick up a hire car for the rest of our holiday, we asked the hotel to book us a taxi which cost 60 Euros. Not cheap!

Unrelated to the hotel, there was an attraction we went to see that certainly wasn't the run of the mill tourist attraction. The Capuchin Crypt is located beneath Santa Maria della Concezione dei Cappuccini church on the Via Veneto near Piazza Barberini and consists of 5 little rooms decorated with skeletons and bones. It's totally bizarre, perhaps not suitable for all but it's really quite stunning and I'm quite sure I've seen nothing like it in my life, and probably never will. Entrance is by donation and if you happen to be in that area, it's well worth a look. I believe it's shut between 12-3pm.

Back to the hotel. All in all this is a great hotel. It's not a big chain, so don't expect a lounge, uniformed staff or room service, but the location, rooms and service are great. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
