We booked thr Artorius for 7 nights in November based on reviews in Tripadvisor and could not have been more pleased. We always prefer small family run hotels and the Artorius was among the best in our travels over the years. It has obviously been recently remodeled and we thought very well done with fabric coverings on the walls, crown moldings, and cherry wood furniture. We found double room with balcony to be very large by European standards and the bathroom was both large and beautiful and so clean. Service was friendly and efficient without exception. Nothing was too much to ask. Breakfast was fresh with enough variety and served in a very pleasant breakfast room. The location for us was perfect. I know a lot of people like to stay by the Pantheon or Piazza Novona but we find those areas to be clogged with tourists day and night. The Monti neighborhood is a "real" neighborhood with a supermarket, lots of restauants and non-touristy shops. Especially liked the Spazio Artigiano shop with beautiful hand made ceramics at very reasonable prices at Vicolo dei Serpenti, 13. Via Nazionale is just two blocks. Most sights are easily walked with multiple bus options or metro if you prefer (espically for the Vatican). I have been to Rome many times and cannot say enough good things about this hotel. Some people have noted water problems in the shower and there is some flucation in the pressure that requires you to adjust the hot/cold at times but this seems very minor. The water pressure was wonderful with plenty of hot water at all times. No real negative comments except they could add some artwork to the rooms. We would also have liked more English TV selectoins, not that we come to Rome to watch TV but at the end of a long day it is nice to relax with something other than BBC world news.

  • Liked — Comfort, location, service.
  • Disliked — Not enough Satellite TV selections in English

From the time my wife and I arrived by taxi at the front door of this hotel for our 5 night stay, we were made to feel very welcome by owners Maurizio and his brother Alesandro. The hotel and our room were always very clean and well serviced. The individually -controlled air-conditioning worked well in the hot Rome weather (early September, 35plus degrees C). Maurizio was always cheerful and very helpful with any of our enquiries (local restaurant & sightseeing etc). Can heartily recommend "Il Grillo Brillo" in Via dei Serpenti (2 minute walk) for friendly service and good food especially the homemade Lasagne and Tiramisu. The hotel is a 10-15 minute walk to most major sights (Trevi fountain, Pantheon, Colosseum, Ancient Rome, Vittorio Emanuel Monument & Museum). Our warmest thanks to Maurizio and staff for helping to make our holiday in Rome very happy and memorable.

We have just returned from a 4 day/3 night trip to Rome. We chose to stay in the Artorius hotel, after reviewing the reviews on Tripadvisor and Venere. What we read had raised our expectations and maybe this is why we can not agree with other reviews.
Starting with the positives, location was good. It is centrally located, indeed, close to Trevi fountain, Termini station and Colloseum. It is also very clean.
Now for the negatives…
1) The hotel is 2 star, and not 3, according to the sign on the room door.
2) We booked this room from September 7th for the price of 160 euros. We checked the price one week before leaving, and the price remained the same. If looking for a better bargain then, don’t hurry to book.
3) The room (106) was small. I can not compare it with other hotels in Rome but compared to Paris, Prague, Vienna hotels, this was a VERY small room.
4) The bathroom ventilation remains open and you can not close it, resulting in a buzzing noise.
5) You couldn’t adjust the shower in a certain height, because the handle was broken. We noted this after the first day and they said that this was something they could fix. However, up to our last day the handle remained broken. Furthermore, the water temperature in the shower was going from hot to cold and vice versa. So after a long and tiring day staying under the shower for a few minutes was out of the question.
6) The breakfast was very poor, without refilling the buffet. One type of cheese, one of salami, and one of ham, was all we got. When bread was consumed, they didn’t put some more. I didn’t ask for more, maybe they would then provide us some more.
To my conclusion, this hotel is highly overpriced. I would be willing to pay something approximately 100-120 euros for this kind of service, but I can not recommend to pay 160 euros for a 2 star hotel.

Checked in with my mother after a couple of weeks of traveling. Have been to Rome several times in the past but always stayed with friends. This time we wanted to be close to the city center. We found the hotel easily (thanks to RomeCabs) and to the pics posted on Trip Advisor. Very friendly the minute we walked in. They helped with all the luggage, which was no small feat. The location cannot be beat. Breakfast was super. They even let us eat early one day when we left before breakfast "opened" at 7am.
Liked the extra security they had (cameras of entrance behind the front desk, special opener to access the main hallway). Rooms were quiet, even though we faced the street (room 106). Compared to most European rooms, these were big. Individual a/c control was also very nice to have. Could not be more pleased with the service.

We read about this hotel on Tripadvisor as had no idea of where to stay and booked it ourselves online for the Rome part of our honeymoon based on the excellent feedback on this hotel that we read. We booked for 6 nights. We weren't disappointed.

We love this hotel.

The location is on a little street which we found very quiet, but all of ancient Rome is a walk away. It's 10 minutes to the Colosseum, 15 to the Spanish Steps or Trevi Fountain, 15mins ( with small bags) to the Station. Couldn't get a better location if sightseeing is your reason to be here. There's also a
supermarket across and up a few metres from the hotel as well as great places to eat and drink mere steps away. Internet cafe around the corner. Buses at the top of the street, 2 minutes.

The hotel itself is superb. Family run, very intimate and attention to detail. It's also cleaned and maintained to immaculate standards. Even the 'oldest lift in Rome' works perfectly. What we also liked was the security. To get to the room you have to go through a set of locked doors before you reach your room door.

The room itself was smallish but very pleasant and seemed new, certainly not as small as we imagined. Heaps of room with large suitcases! Lovely bathroom with good pressure in the shower and more than adequate in size.

We had breakfast every day in the 'garden' setting out the back. This consisted of various delicious pastries, juices, bread, cheese proper coffee made to order e.t.c..

We also have to acknowledge the excellent service. Everything was done without too much trouble. At breakfast my wife always had a cappuccino and it came every morning with a different design on top. Nice personal touch. If we ordered a taxi, they knew what time it would arrive, and would wait for it in the street before coming to get us. We left something in the room to be thrown out and they even called our cab on the way to the airport to check with us that we hadn't left it by mistake.

There is one thing that we must mention regarding our stay. The way our flights were booked we had to leave Rome for Florence for 2 days and then come back to Rome for 1 night. This was an inconvenience to us and at the time of booking our hotels, Atorius was fully booked for this 1 return day so we had to book another hotel near the airport. We checked with the reception on the off chance something may be available, and it was but it was a triple and not advertised on the net and of course we may book it, but unfortunately we would have to be charged more than the double room price we were staying in - they were so apologetic that they charged us less than the usual rate for the triple room, - and no trouble at all to store our big bags while we went to Florence, which was so worth it - We then had a further surprise by the room itself. It was huge, with a lovely big balcony. All this for an extra price of 20 euros!! Of all the places and hotels we have been to, this rates up there with the best.

We will return to Rome to stay again, and book the triple.
