We have just returned from a 4 day/3 night trip to Rome. We chose to stay in the Artorius hotel, after reviewing the reviews on Tripadvisor and Venere. What we read had raised our expectations and maybe this is why we can not agree with other reviews.
Starting with the positives, location was good. It is centrally located, indeed, close to Trevi fountain, Termini station and Colloseum. It is also very clean.
Now for the negatives…
1) The hotel is 2 star, and not 3, according to the sign on the room door.
2) We booked this room from September 7th for the price of 160 euros. We checked the price one week before leaving, and the price remained the same. If looking for a better bargain then, don’t hurry to book.
3) The room (106) was small. I can not compare it with other hotels in Rome but compared to Paris, Prague, Vienna hotels, this was a VERY small room.
4) The bathroom ventilation remains open and you can not close it, resulting in a buzzing noise.
5) You couldn’t adjust the shower in a certain height, because the handle was broken. We noted this after the first day and they said that this was something they could fix. However, up to our last day the handle remained broken. Furthermore, the water temperature in the shower was going from hot to cold and vice versa. So after a long and tiring day staying under the shower for a few minutes was out of the question.
6) The breakfast was very poor, without refilling the buffet. One type of cheese, one of salami, and one of ham, was all we got. When bread was consumed, they didn’t put some more. I didn’t ask for more, maybe they would then provide us some more.
To my conclusion, this hotel is highly overpriced. I would be willing to pay something approximately 100-120 euros for this kind of service, but I can not recommend to pay 160 euros for a 2 star hotel.

Checked in with my mother after a couple of weeks of traveling. Have been to Rome several times in the past but always stayed with friends. This time we wanted to be close to the city center. We found the hotel easily (thanks to RomeCabs) and to the pics posted on Trip Advisor. Very friendly the minute we walked in. They helped with all the luggage, which was no small feat. The location cannot be beat. Breakfast was super. They even let us eat early one day when we left before breakfast "opened" at 7am.
Liked the extra security they had (cameras of entrance behind the front desk, special opener to access the main hallway). Rooms were quiet, even though we faced the street (room 106). Compared to most European rooms, these were big. Individual a/c control was also very nice to have. Could not be more pleased with the service.

We read about this hotel on Tripadvisor as had no idea of where to stay and booked it ourselves online for the Rome part of our honeymoon based on the excellent feedback on this hotel that we read. We booked for 6 nights. We weren't disappointed.

We love this hotel.

The location is on a little street which we found very quiet, but all of ancient Rome is a walk away. It's 10 minutes to the Colosseum, 15 to the Spanish Steps or Trevi Fountain, 15mins ( with small bags) to the Station. Couldn't get a better location if sightseeing is your reason to be here. There's also a
supermarket across and up a few metres from the hotel as well as great places to eat and drink mere steps away. Internet cafe around the corner. Buses at the top of the street, 2 minutes.

The hotel itself is superb. Family run, very intimate and attention to detail. It's also cleaned and maintained to immaculate standards. Even the 'oldest lift in Rome' works perfectly. What we also liked was the security. To get to the room you have to go through a set of locked doors before you reach your room door.

The room itself was smallish but very pleasant and seemed new, certainly not as small as we imagined. Heaps of room with large suitcases! Lovely bathroom with good pressure in the shower and more than adequate in size.

We had breakfast every day in the 'garden' setting out the back. This consisted of various delicious pastries, juices, bread, cheese proper coffee made to order e.t.c..

We also have to acknowledge the excellent service. Everything was done without too much trouble. At breakfast my wife always had a cappuccino and it came every morning with a different design on top. Nice personal touch. If we ordered a taxi, they knew what time it would arrive, and would wait for it in the street before coming to get us. We left something in the room to be thrown out and they even called our cab on the way to the airport to check with us that we hadn't left it by mistake.

There is one thing that we must mention regarding our stay. The way our flights were booked we had to leave Rome for Florence for 2 days and then come back to Rome for 1 night. This was an inconvenience to us and at the time of booking our hotels, Atorius was fully booked for this 1 return day so we had to book another hotel near the airport. We checked with the reception on the off chance something may be available, and it was but it was a triple and not advertised on the net and of course we may book it, but unfortunately we would have to be charged more than the double room price we were staying in - they were so apologetic that they charged us less than the usual rate for the triple room, - and no trouble at all to store our big bags while we went to Florence, which was so worth it - We then had a further surprise by the room itself. It was huge, with a lovely big balcony. All this for an extra price of 20 euros!! Of all the places and hotels we have been to, this rates up there with the best.

We will return to Rome to stay again, and book the triple.

I stayed here for 3 nights in October of 2008. Coming from a bad choice of hotel in Santorini, Greece, I was pleasantly surprised by the quiet, neat and clean room at Hotel Artorius. The bathroom was quite spacious and immaculate. Its location is within walking distance from Stazione Termini/Metro Station and many sites to see, including Colosseum, Vittoriiano, Trevi Fountain, two of the three Museo Nazionale Romano, Roman Forum, and Pantheon. It is run by a family of a nice couple and their two sons. The small courtyard for breakfast is perfect to get your day started. Being locals, the owners can advise you easily on where to find good restaurants. I had a most wonderful stay and strongly recommend it to anyone considering visiting Rome, Italy.

Based on TA reviews we stayed at the Artorius for three nights in late September. We had a triple room (for two), so we had plenty of space. The hotel is very nicely appointed, immaculate, and well staffed. The staff were very helpful when one of us mislaid her wallet, which she eventually found exactly where she had put it in her suitcase. Staff members went to great lengths to help us search for it. They also give excellent advice on restaurants, etc., and will help you organize sightseeing and taxis.

The hotel is in a great location central to the Colosseum, the Palatine, the Capitoline, and Roman and Trajan's Forums. Bus routes are nearby, and the Cavour Metro stop is 5 minutes away on foot, so you can reach the National museums, Trevi, Spagna, the Pantheon, the Vatican, Piazza Navona, and of course, Galleria Borghese.

The hotel offers an excellent breakfast on the terrace, which is covered and heated on cool days.

If you want an excellent boutique hotel in the best location in Rome, choose the Artorius.
