My wife and I returned from a week in Rome (25/12-01/01) and we stay at the Gulliver’s Lodge.
Any word I’ll write here can’t describe the excellence treatment that Simon gave us, and the loveliness of the B&B.

The B&B is located just 8 minute walk from the Termini station (with the luggage) and same distance to the coliseum.
Bus stop right outside the door to the city center and metro station is just 4 minute walk.

Every morning breakfast served into the room (8 to 10) and there is nothing short - toasts, croissant and pastry, cereals, yogurt and dessert, cold and hot drink. After the breakfast you’ll have to rest for a bit because you’ll feel full…

If you’ll have to leave early and cant have the breakfast in the room, Simon will prepare a bag for you in the fridge with all the things that you need.

The room was large and cozy, and nothing was short, in fact maybe a closet is the only things that needed.
You can’t hear to noise from the street and the room (also the B&B) is always heated. My wife can’t stay the cold so Simon even turns the AC for us for extra heating.

Simon draws on the map the main streets and the main attractions, and helps you with booking and in fact with everything that you need. His recommendation of the restaurants are excellent, don’t miss the restaurant that gives 6 or 7 different kinds of pasta, it’s highly recommended!

At the beginning I was a little bit concerned about staying in B&B for a week, but after the experience that we had with Simon we will recommend this B&B to everyone we know!

Spent three nights here with my wife in mid-December, at €90/night.

I'm in full agreement with the praise heaped upon the proprietor, Simon, in the other reviews. His personal service really enhanced our stay.

We arrived after midnight on a Thursday, and Simon stayed up late to greet us. He provides tips on places to visit, along with a map. He even called a museum to make a booking for us. He brings breakfast to you in your room every day. It's pretty great.

The room was comfortable and clean but not luxurious. This is not the Four Seasons, but you are not paying Four Seasons prices. Our window overlooked a busy street but the window sealed tight to keep the room quiet enough.

We found the location good; it's on the edge rather than the center but Rome is reasonably compact. Walk 10 minutes to the Colosseum and the remarkable archeological area.

A couple of comments may be useful. The B&B is in a shared residential building, and while the street number 101 Cavour is marked, there is no sign for the B&B other than the name of the property next to the doorbell.

The property is about a ten minute walk from Termini, the central train station. The Time Out guidebook calls the area around the station "seriously seedy" at night. I would not be put off by this. While we did notice a few "professional" ladies not far from the B&B on Saturday night, there was nothing that made us feel unsafe.

All in all a very good stay and would definitely return.

Our stay at Gulliver's Lodge B&B was great. You just have to meet Simon to fully understand the experience. When we booked, I was concerned about paying cash and frankly worried that all the glowing reviews about his B&B were fake because they were almost too good. As soon as we arrived my worries were gone.
When we arrived, Simon stayed late to meet us on a rainy afternoon and took plenty of time to provide one of his custom maps, answer all our questions about Rome, provide suggestions for food, attractions, safety, and much more. I can't say enough about how helpful it was to stay with Simon as the host.
The breakfast was perfect for an active tourist - cereal, pastry, yogurt or pudding, juice, coffee or tea, toasted meat & cheese sandwich - all delivered to your room when you wake up. Every morning we when we woke, we peaked out the door, let Simon know we were ready for breakfast and it arrived within minutes.
His restaurant suggestions were excellent in quality and met our budget every time. Simon helped us avoid the “tourist trap” meals and experience some really excellent meals. I cannot recount the number of times Simon went over and above to make our trip better.
The room was very clean when we arrived and it was cleaned daily. I am a bit of a neat freak/germ freak and I had not worries while at the Lodge. With that said, just remember a B&B has a different feel than a brand now hotel room.
The area is very close to all the attractions and most important a metro stop. There is also a bus stop right outside the front door. If you arrive via train, I suggest buying the Roma Pass (3-day metro pass) and taking the metro to Via Cavour. It is a very short walk to Gulliver's Lodge. The walk from the main station is not far either. The area is very quiet, safe and even has a grocery store which we used for lunch sandwiches and drinks in the room.
While I loved Gulliver's Lodge, I do not think it perfect for everyone - it is not a 5-star hotel. If you are that person who is picky and finds fault in everything - you won't like Gulliver's Lodge. However, I don't think you will find a hotel in this price range that even comes close. The B&B experience is just different - some like it and some don't. If you are a "stay with the tour group" personality, go with a hotel. If you like a little more freedom and new experiences, you will love Gulliver's Lodge.
Simon is the reason for staying here far above all. Even if you think you know your way around Rome – I think you will find Simon’s input very valuable and entertaining!

We spent 9 days at Gullivers Lodge in September.
Our host, Simon, welcomed us with a cool drink on arrival (much appreciated at 9pm after a long day of travel), gave us a comprehensive city map and suggested various routes to take.

Our room was spacious, clean and air-conditioned, most welcome after spending hours in the heat & dust of Rome each day.

Unlike most b & bs, Simon brings breakfast to your room at a time that suits you, the guest.

Gullivers is in an excellent location, being less than 10 mins walk from Termini and within walking distance of just about all the "must sees" in Rome. If you're not keen on walking everywhere, the metro rail station is only a couple of blocks away.

There are plenty of reasonably-priced restaurants in the area and we had the thickest milkshakes ever at the gelato shop about 2 doors from Gullivers.

We'd have no hesitation in staying at Gullivers again should we be fortunate enough to return to Rome.

Sound proof windows, good location (check out the street behind Via Cavour for great restaurants), best beds we had in Italy. Gulliver's Lodge had many excellent points to it, but none better than the owner/operator Simon. He brings you breakfast every morning when you're ready, gives you a map of the city while higlhlighting what to see and goes above and beyond the call of duty. Case in point: our luggage did not make the connection in Zurich. When the Airport finally called and said it would be delivered the morning, my girlfriend (fiance by the end of the trip) were very relieved... until it didn't show up. I told Simon about the issue, so he called the airport and waited all day and night for our bags to show up. When they didn't arrive the next day either, he called a personal friend who did some research and found that the computer said our bags were with the courier, but they were actually still at the airport. To make a long story somewhat shorter... he had his friend personally give them to the courier, called Simon with the driver's cell phone number, Simon called him and made sure our bags showed up. Without Simon, I don't think we'd ever had gotten our bags. That would have made it a much harder 2 week trip!

  • Liked — Simon, the owner/operator
  • Disliked — Must book pretty far in advance as it can get busy.
