We spent 9 days at Gullivers Lodge in September.
Our host, Simon, welcomed us with a cool drink on arrival (much appreciated at 9pm after a long day of travel), gave us a comprehensive city map and suggested various routes to take.

Our room was spacious, clean and air-conditioned, most welcome after spending hours in the heat & dust of Rome each day.

Unlike most b & bs, Simon brings breakfast to your room at a time that suits you, the guest.

Gullivers is in an excellent location, being less than 10 mins walk from Termini and within walking distance of just about all the "must sees" in Rome. If you're not keen on walking everywhere, the metro rail station is only a couple of blocks away.

There are plenty of reasonably-priced restaurants in the area and we had the thickest milkshakes ever at the gelato shop about 2 doors from Gullivers.

We'd have no hesitation in staying at Gullivers again should we be fortunate enough to return to Rome.

Sound proof windows, good location (check out the street behind Via Cavour for great restaurants), best beds we had in Italy. Gulliver's Lodge had many excellent points to it, but none better than the owner/operator Simon. He brings you breakfast every morning when you're ready, gives you a map of the city while higlhlighting what to see and goes above and beyond the call of duty. Case in point: our luggage did not make the connection in Zurich. When the Airport finally called and said it would be delivered the morning, my girlfriend (fiance by the end of the trip) were very relieved... until it didn't show up. I told Simon about the issue, so he called the airport and waited all day and night for our bags to show up. When they didn't arrive the next day either, he called a personal friend who did some research and found that the computer said our bags were with the courier, but they were actually still at the airport. To make a long story somewhat shorter... he had his friend personally give them to the courier, called Simon with the driver's cell phone number, Simon called him and made sure our bags showed up. Without Simon, I don't think we'd ever had gotten our bags. That would have made it a much harder 2 week trip!

  • Liked — Simon, the owner/operator
  • Disliked — Must book pretty far in advance as it can get busy.

We stayed at this exceptional, recently and totally renovated B & B for a total of seven nights during three separate periods in October. We're huge fans of B&B's and found Gulliver's Lodge and our host Simon, to be among the most wonderful we've experienced. From the moment we arrived, Simon made us feel very welcome and helped us get acquainted with our first trip to Roma. Due in part to Simon's expert and helpful guidance we quickly became very comfortable with this amazing city.
The website describes the accommodations and amenities exactly as they we found them. We stayed in the Yellow and Orange rooms. Both were spotlessly clean. The Orange room can accommodate up to 4-individuals, where the yellow accommodates up to three. We enjoyed the independantly controlled air conditioner/heating unit, small refridgerator and in-room safe. The orange room has a shower/tub combination where the yellow room has a large shower the water pressure was consistently adequate. Both rooms have a breakfast table and chairs, comfy beds with soft cotton sheets and windows that open out to a quiet street. We appreciated the Lodge's location as being very central, just a few blocks west of Termini and east of the Colosseum. Also, there is a bus stop, just outside the front door and the Metro is just a few blocks west.
Each morning Simon delivered breakfast to our room, which he personally tailored to touring energy needs...meat and cheese sandwich, yogurt, dry cereal with a little treat, juice, milk, coffee and fresh, every day pastries. We departed Roma very early in the morning, and Simon prepared us a breakfast to take with us.
I can't give enough accolades to Simon and the wonderful home away from home he has created. During our next trip to Roma, we won't consider staying anywhere but Gulliver's Lodge.

  • Liked — Cleanliness, Location, Large rooms, Simon's friendliness.
  • Disliked — We found every aspect met our needs.

Myself My wife ans two friends have just returned from rome after a fantastic stay.
We booked at gullivers lodge after we found that the hotel prces where we wanted to be were a bit over the top.
After booking , the contact with simon was great with regular answers to my e mails .
We took advantage of the luxury car transfer from ciampino airport (50 euro) which for 4 of us worked out cheaper than the bus and taxi ride. On arrival our driver met us and took us to the b and b in a huge mercedes which was very nice, he even took the girls bags in.
We were met by simon who was very friendly and welcoming ,He even sat with us and marked out the map so we could find all the best places to visit.
The room was fantastic and the bed was very comfy , we had a choice of dvd,s if we wanted to watch in our room and also free internet and brew making facilities.
there is ac in the room and we weren,t charged for it.
The place is in a good location 5/10 mins walk from the colloseum and close to the metro and train station
As it was my wifes birthday Simon left a bottle of champagne and some choccies for each couple which was amazing and gave us his mobile number so we could get hold of him if neded
Breakfast was fine pretty much what you get on the continent , fresh pastries ,toasted sandwiches ,cereal ,juice and tea/coffee
plenty to be going on with.
although the metro passes under the buiding i only noticed on the last morning and you can hear the odd person toing and froing sometimes but our room opened out onto the stair well and to be honest we didn,t get disturbed at all .
Simon even prepared us an early breakfast on our last morning and organised the car transfer again , giving each coulple a parting gift of a very nice bottle of wine on our way out.
the area at first glance might seem a little dodgy but if is perfectly safe and there are a few nice shops on the walk to the centre.
This is our third visit to rome having previously stayed at the porte maggiore which was ok and the inn at the roman forum which was also amazing .
I will definately stay there again . the gullivers lodge is a good solid honest and clean b and b and i think we got value for money .
and simons local knowledge was a godsend.
thanks simon ...

My wife and I stayed here in June 2008. Overall, I would say it is a poor value. Nothing terrible, but for the cost you should find better. Breakfast was o.k. and basic. Our queen bed was actually two twin beds placed next to each other. The mattress' were really old and we sank into the middle. Luckily, we don't have bad backs or we would have been hurting. The walls are very thin so there isn't much privacy. The fridge in our room barely kept things cold.

The location is good. It is close to the train station and in a relatively safe neighborhood. The staff is nice and helpful and speak English. There is free Internet access. I think they charge for AC.

Gulliver's seems like a backpackers kind of place. It didn't have many backpackers while I was there, but it reminded me of every other place I stayed in while travelling in my teens and twenties. That said, it should be much cheaper. You could do worse I'm sure, but look around before book here.
