We have just returned from a long weekend in Rome. Booked the Trevi B&B Roma on the internet, and had a lovely time. On arriving to the B&B, it is not easy to find as it is on the first and second floor above restaurant "il chianti". We were looking a bit lost outside, map in hand, when the friendly owner came to greet us. Our room was excellent, very good size, very clean with modern décor, fantastic bathroom, and comfortable bed. A bit hot though, needed the windows open – my eyeliner melted! We were very impressed. This was the best room we have stayed in all European cities. It felt secure, as you could only get through the main door with a swipe card, and through another locked door onto our corridor.
The location of the b&b couldn’t be better (although could be more visible), just a few steps from the Trevi fountain and within walking
distance of the pantheon, piazza novana, and metro station (Barberini
- 1 euro to get to the Vatican, well worth it). There are loads of restaurants nearby. We would recommend “l’archetto” restaurant, on via del archetto 5 minutes from the hotel. The restaurant is very popular, and people were being turned away by 8 o clock, we were lucky to get the last table. Good value meals, and excellent spaghetti!! Very extensive menu to choose from, including vodka spaghetti for the adventurous. If you fancy some drinks at night, we went to the pantheon and piazza novana areas, where we found a handful of nice pubs/bars, it is expensive though (12 euros for a pint and vodka-lemonade was the going rate). There did not seem to be
many pubs/bars around the Trevi area. We had a coffee on piazza novana, which came to 14 euros! “News café” again just 5 minutes from Trevi fountain (if that) was a great find. Friendly staff , reasonable prices, lovely coffees and cheesecakes and nice outdoors seating area.
It we were being picky, we would say that the breakfast could have been better in terms of choice – it was all cake, cake and more cake!! Don’t know if this is a normal Italian breakfast? Not particularly appealing on a morning. Although what you did get was nice. It was a bit of a hassle on the first morning asking for milk for my cornflakes – the maid lady told me to use fruit yogurt!! But she got there in the end. Suppose it would have helped if I’d have learnt the Italian word for ‘milk’.
This B&B is not for people who like a good view- our room looked out onto a tatty building. But I have to say that the room was so great that this did not bother us at all. I would recommend this B&B to anyone.
