“Fantastico Baldassini!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2007

Our third vacation to Italy, we selected Baldassini primarily for its location-near the Pantheon and Navona. It was like having our own apartment in Rome! Francesco greeted us with glasses of Prosecco and a snack while showing us our room and giving restaurant recommendations (loved Da Mario and gelato at Giolliti). The room was clean, had wonderful huge windows facing the street. Each day began with a lovely breakfast with more than we could eat- great cappucino, orange juice, fruit, various rolls, bread and toasts, meat and cheese, cereal. Had reservations to the Borghese Gallery one morning so Francesco brought breakfast early and arranged a cab. What we loved was that we got the feeling of independent living in Rome, yet Francesco was available to answer any questions or help if needed. We'd definitely stay at Baldassini the next time in Rome!

We've just come back from 4 nights in Rome after staying at this delightful b&b. We stayed in the cheapest room which unlike the other two doesn't have an en-suite, but a private bathroom entered through the hallway. It is a small 3 bedded B&B on the 1st floor of an old building in the heart of Rome city centre. It is a bus ride from the main Termini, but less than 5 mins from the Pantheon & Piazza Navona and about 20 mins brisk walk to the Vatican, Trastevere, Spanish Steps and the Colloseum - an ideal location.
The room was small - good double bed, 2 small side tables, an alcove with shelves and space for hanging clothes and a small table - but more than enough for the two of us. We had a peek at the other rooms and if you like a bit of space to move around then book either of those, but it wasn't a problem for us at all. It is at the back of the apartment and so had no real noise issues - except from a bit from the kitchen of the restaurant downstairs and from someone's parrot(?) in a different apartment on one of the upper floors - however given the central location we were expecting a lot more noise.
Although there is no communal space there is a toaster, microwave and fridge in the hall which we could use.
Breakfast was fab - we each had orange juice, tea, yoghurt, bowl of muesli, a couple of slices of mini toasts, a sweet roll, some biscuits and two pieces of fruit - definitely better than we thought given the usual italian fare. As there is no communal room, breakfast was served to your room when you wanted it - which we really liked as there was no rush to get showered, dressed and down to a breakfast room by 9am which is often the case in other establishments.
Finally the owner - Francesco - he was great. He had a small bottle of bubbly for us when we arrived (not sure if that is the norm or whether it was because it was our anniversary), and was able to answer any question we had for him. He went out of his way to print things off for us and let us use his internet for short periods to check mail.
We booked directly with him [--] and i know that he may give discounts if you do that (use code BBB49 if you want).
Overall, we had a great time and I would definitely go back there and recommend Baldassini to others.

We took a chance on this new B&B in the heart of Rome's Historic Center situated between the Pantheon and Piazza Navona because there were no reviews on file. We were not disappointed! The young owner Francesco and his fiance manage this 3 room B&B on what Italians call the first floor, but it is up one flight of easy stairs and Francesco greeted us and helped with the luggage. Francesco lives off premises so it is important to inform him of your arrival time. The room was very comfortable as was the bathroom. The shower was excellent...lots of water pressure and no drainage problems! Our room faced the street so there was some noise, but earplugs are provided (!) and if you have a sleep aid, you'll be fine. I'm a particularly light sleeper so speak from experience. Francesco says the windows will be replaced within the month. A/C installation is planned as well. There was a "kitchen" corner of the room with small fridge, toaster, hot water pot and table. It was a little cramped but workable. Breakfast was served in our room and it was bountiful...fresh fruit, yogourt, meusli, juice, breakfast roll, packaged cheese and ham, cookies, and a choice of hot beverage (we chose cappucino.) There are several added values such as prosecco & chocolates upon arrival and a gift of a moka and coffee upon departure. Francesco helped with taxi arrangements and gave us restaurant recommendations. Book through their website directly and save yourself money: [--]. Tell them you heard about them from us and we will also receive a discount on future bookings!

Yes,it's near to the main attractions. Yes, it's surrounded by restaurants. Yes, it is a character building. ( built ~ 1520AD) But, the welcome by Francesco, the owner, his assistance with first timers in Rome and interest in his guests was stunning! We will go back again and again!

The location is ideal for touring rome on foot - a stone's throw from both the Pantheon and Piazza Navona. Accommodation in Rome is expensive so I was really delighted to find this little gem. We stayed in both rooms as we made our reservation late as neither was available for the entire duration of our stay. I would have to agree with the previous reviewer regarding the noise in the street-facing bedroom. We didn't find it kept us awake but it does come to life around 8am. There is so much to do in Rome, however, that this really isn't a problem. The rear bedroom is very quiet. Both rooms are very tastefully decorated and perfectly maintained. Breakfast is served in the room which is a nice touch. I'll definitely be returning on future trips to Rome.

Location A++
Cleanness A+
Attentiveness A+
English A
Breakfast A+
Air Conditioning Didn't see one
Appliances: TV, microwave, refrigerator, hair dryer.
Now, depending on your expectations it is not a Holiday Inn. It is a true Italian apartment syle. One floor up from a narrow steet that is well traveled by locals and tourists going between the Pantheon 200 yards and the Piazza Navona 400 yards. One of the most famous Gelateria's around the corner and one of the top rated sea food restaraunt just a few steps away.
Noise: We enjoyed the street sounds only 10 feet below the front apartment window. We were there Friday through Sunday at the noisiest. Singing groups of teenagers on holiday could be heard until 1 am and then the delivery vehicles started at 6 am. Apparently others have complained because Francesco tried to baffle the window. He said because it is a historic district he can't replace the 19th century windows without a permit.
We were too tired to be bothered by the noise but if this is a concern maybe the back appartment can be reserved.
Francesco and his wife were they most friendly, hard working couple we encountered on our vacation.
I would highly recommend this B&B. Hope you all have a great time in Rome.
