I went to Rome with my wife and daughter. We made our own travel arrangements so needed a hotel in a central location but not costing the earth. We were quite certain of what we were looking for. Priorities being, location, cleanliness, cost, good reviews and not paying for facilities that we wouldn't use. We certainly hit the target with all of these. The hotel is situated on the first floor of an old but tastefully and classily decorated building. The staff are very pleasant, attentive and obliging. We had the triple room which was right opposite receiption and hardly heard any noise when we went to bed. The room was perfectly adequate and the bathroom, (don't forget I'm travelling with two females), needed to be good and it was better than good. You come out of your hotel door and you are on the street at the bottom of the Spanish Steps and 50 yards away from the Metro. Other major sites are close by within walking distance. One word of caution though and that's be prepared for excessive food and drink prices in restaraunts. Some charging as much as twelve euros for a bottle of local beer. Pizza is as good as anything and McDonalds is cheap enough as often as you can manage it. Travelling in January is great to avoid the crowds and as long as you dress warm you'll be fine. The hotel have big umbrellas that you can take out if it rains. A nice touch I thought. An open top bus tour is about 18 euro for one day and 24 for two and is a great way to get around - hop on and hop on. Pick the red buses. Far more reliable and better equiped than the others.
