“Great Hotel - Awful Pool!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2013

Booked this hotel just on the outskirts of Rome, as it had a lovely looking pool and we were expecting nice weather.

The hotel itself is a lovely 3/4* and has spacious clean bedrooms and bathrooms with fresh linen and towels daily.

Great breakfast, but was dwinding by 9.30am so get there early!!

It advertises a shuttle to the nearest Met station but we never used it as the 664 bus is much more handy, is covered by the Rome travel card and comes every 15 mins from the Met station and takes around 20 mins to the hotel. It runs up to 1.30am is and very reliable. Make a note of the bus number now as it WILL be invaluable!!

Downsides: the pool was absolutely filthy, hadnt been cleaned in months and for end of April with glorious sunshine and 24 degree weather its just not accetable for a 4* hotel. There was three broken loungers next to it which hadnt been cleaned either - basically the pool area is a no go - so don't book if you're looking for somewhere in the city with a pool!

We did however have a lovely balcony overlooking the Rome skyline - you do have to get the reception to unlock and re-lock the patio doors for you each time which can be a pain, but worth it to sit in the sun with Prosecco in hand taking in the amazing views!!

Overall its a nice decent hotel, good wifi and helpful friendly service -- the pool is the thing that really let this otherwise lovely hotel down!!

We stayed at Capannelle for 8 nights. We expected much less for the money we paid and were pleasantly surprised of our big well maintained clean room with a big bathroom. Breakfast was ok, nothing special but we never left hungry.
We have never used shuttles the hotel provided, it was very easy to get to a metro station using local buses 664 or 663. If you are comfortable with using public transport, you will have no problems staying at this hotel.
We had a good stay and may come back one day.

Hotel is brilliant - clean, nice breakfast, shuttles to the airport and the metro station, bus to the railway station just in front, bathtub, low prices on otel.com - couldn't ask for more. Staff is very nice and helpful as well. Stayed 4 nights with my brother there, no complaints from our side.

Typical touristic hotel, Pullman of tourist everyday....
In my opinion good for one or two night like tourist, but not for business man.
Bedroom very "Sleep..."
Moquette very "walk..."
Poor breakfast.
But to be in Rome it's quite cheaper.

You can;t beat the price for the quality of service. Very nice rooms that are well maintained and clean. The staff is incredibly friendly and the hotel food was decent. Our only disappointment is the shuttle service. The advertisement for the hotel is a little misleading when it says free shuttle. It is free, but only goes runs a few times a day. The free service only takes you to the public transportation. Being from near NYC, taking the subway wasn't a problem, just an inconvenience. However, the last shuttle pickup is at 6:45 PM, so if you plan to stay in DT Rome to check out the nightlife, plan for a taxi back to the hotel. It costs about 30 Euro one-way. The shuttle isn't a show stopper for us though. The cleanliness of the facilities, quality, and service are enough for us to return there next time we're in Rome. My only recommendation is to extend the shuttle service hours to allow more flexibility to the hotel guests and possibly have the shuttle take guests all the way into the city... Just a suggestion.

I and my girlfriend stayed at Hotel Capanelle for seven nights from 9th
March until the 16th. We booked via Expedia and received a very good price
for a standard double room – about £250, or less than £20 each per night!

We arrived at the hotel at about 00:30 – 6 hours late thanks to EasyJet!
The hotel staff were very welcoming given the hour, however one slight
annoyance was that they had no food available (we had not eaten for a
prolonged period due to our flight delay) but ultimately I can’t fault
the hotel for this as they don’t advertise a night time room service.
After getting into our room, on which first impression was relatively
stylish and modern, we realised that the pillows provided were very
basic and thin. I went back to reception and requested two additional
pillows that were promptly delivered about five minutes later!

The next morning, given how hungry we were we got up early and went down
to breakfast in the dining room. We found a large range of food
available – traditional continental items featured heavily, pastries
etc, as well as a wide range of assorted fresh fruit, cereals and they
even had a small selection of fried items for us Brits! Drink wise,
there was large range of juices available and plenty of tea and coffee
options – more than enough choice for anyone! The food was well
presented and fresh throughout; thoroughly pleasing after our lack of
food the day before. This continued through the rest of our stay, at no
point could we find fault with the breakfast.

That night we also decided to try the hotel restaurant (we had got back
in the evening soaking wet through due to the March showers and wanted
the easy option!). Upon arriving we were quickly seated and the staff
took our orders whilst being friendly and professional, they also
delivered a complimentary basket of bread which I felt was a nice touch.
The menu was quite limited with an assorted range of traditional Italian
dishes; I ordered a prawn risotto and my partner a tomato pasta dish,
along with half a litre of wine and water to go with it. The food was
brought out quickly which made me question whether it had been cooked
freshly, and upon the waiter removing the silver cover, my first thought
was “is that it?” The portions seemed unusually small, but admittedly
after we had finished eating we both felt comfortably full so I did not
query this with the staff. In terms of taste, the food was good but
nothing special, and after discovering the dessert options were found on
a self serve, buffet style counter we decided to call it night. The bill
arrive for just under 30Euros which in hindsight seems expensive
considering we were getting meals with a starter or dessert each, a main
each and half a litre of wine and water for the same price in centre of
Rome. Ultimately though the convenience on that particular night
outweighed this!

Given that the hotel is a fair distance from Rome city centre, a useful
service that the hotel offered was a free shuttle bus to the nearest
metro station (Colli Albani on Metro Line A) and back. The bus ran every
morning at 9:30, 10:00 and 10:30 to the station and then again at 18:15
and 18:45 back to the hotel. It was a welcome change to the normal buses
run by the city of Rome – fast and modern! The driver as well was
friendly and helpful making otherwise long-winded journey a little
simpler.

However, through the course of the week there were a few things that we
notice, in particular with the room that caused slight problems but in
the grand scale of things were nothing more than minor niggles; certain
furnishing in the room were aged and stained (notably the lights), the
shower screen was not fixed in place so after each shower there was a
large amount of water on the bathroom floor that could of caused us to
slip had we not been attentive. Lastly, the air conditioning unit seemed
overly noisy at times which could only be rectified by removing the key
card, which then in turn disabled all the lights – frustrating at night,
but as I’ve stated these were minors issues and didn’t cause too much discomfort or inconvenience.

All in all, I was very pleased with our stay at Hotel Capanelle, I would
definitely return and in fact have been looking at dates in September
this year but sadly there are no rooms available currently. The only
reason why I haven’t given 5 stars is for the small faults listed in the
paragraph above, the average quality of the restaurant as detailed, and
the fact it was quite far from the centre. I would recommend the hotel
to anybody travelling with their partner/spouse and who is willing to
spend a little time each day getting too and from the centre of Rome.

We didn’t like the service and breakfast but rooms are super convenience and you need a car
So service was poor and also breakfast but the room is so big and convenience although you need to ask for special service to open the window.
You must have a car since is very far from the center.
The cost is so cheap so I recommend this hotel if you like to save your money and sleep well.
