We stayed at this hotel on two different occasions while we were in Italy, at the beginning of the month and at the end of the month. We were pleased both times.

We found this hotel to be in a great location as it was fairly close to the metro and we could walk to all sorts of attractions.

The hotel was very clean, comfortable and quiet. We were also happy that there was a bathtub in the bathroom, as we found a lot of Italian hotels (or the ones we stayed it), didn't have a tub. My only complain which is fairly minor is that the bed was rather hard.

The air conditioning worked great, which was a blessing after walking around in the 35+ heat.

Staff was friendly and helpful.

We would definitely stay at this hotel again.

I stayed at this great hotel with two friends for a girls-trip to Rome this month. We booked a triple room which was great value for money. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, spoke English and was happy to recommend good restaurants (you should really try Alfredo's in Via della Scrofa if you get the chance!). The hotel's location was good in a small sidestreet to Via Nazionale (which kept the noise level down) but still only a 10 minute walk to Centro Storico. The hotel is small, but the triple rooms are nice and big, very clean and recently refurbished with new bathrooms as well. This is much more a three star than two star hotel!

Only negative thing to mention are the somewhat hard beds and the rather simple breakfast - both which you'll find at other hotels in Rome, so that shouldn't really be held against this great hotel!

Lastly, book this hotel directly through the hotel website - same price as hotels.com and the like, but you only have to pay upon departure, not in advance!

Yes, all the recent posts are true. This hotel was exactly as recent posters have written. The entrance is through the huge doors on Via Genova, yes the lift is tiny, but who cares. The hotel is comfy, the rooms were spotless, the staff very very helpful. The location is excellent as its a 2 minute walk to Via Nazionale which has the bus line 64 which runs pretty centrally all the way to the Vatican. As a tip, rather take the 40, which is the express route of the 64.

We enjoyed our stay at Galatea - you can pay much more in Rome for much less. The hotel is surrounded by restaurants and good shopping on the Via Nazionale. There is a Spar grocery store across the road on Nazionale, a metro stop about 8 mins walk and the most fantastic pizza cafe (daytime only) for a real authentic roman treat. Stay here if you want clean no fuss accommodation away from Terminio.

My only minor critisisms were the lack of a mini fridge which would have been nice to store a cold water and no English language TV channel. All the other places we stayed at had either Sky news, CNN or BBC. It would have been nice to catch some news, but all up, not a problem. Oh yes, one other thing - the breakfast coffee was terrible but the rest was good!!

My husband and I stayed five nights last September in hotel Galatea. We chose this hotel based on the reviews because of its location and we weren't disappointed. Walking distance to Colosseum, to the Termini station (for train and metro), two blocks from the bus stop, close to good restaurants. The room was very clean and modern and the shower was great. It also had a safe that they don't charge extra. The staff was very friendly and spoke English. One of the cons was the breakfast. Just a few options, so after a few days we started having breakfast in the café downstairs to vary a little bit (good and cheap). Also, as other hotels in Europe, the bed was a little bit too hard, so after a few nights our backs started complaining. The TV had only Italian channels which for us wasn't a big deal because we could understand but it would be nice if they had cable to have some international channels. But overall was a nice stay.
