We had a wonderful experience staying from March 3rd through March 7th, 2007 in the Belli Suite apartment available from Reallyrome. The apartments are conveniently located in the Trastevere neighborhood, a couple of blocks from the Tiber River, near the Isola Tiberina. It is an easy walk to the Pantheon or Campo dei Fiori, and very easy to use public transportation from this location. The apartments are on the first and second floors, which would be the second and third floors in the US, and only accessible by stairs. Shelley, the owner, was there to greet us when we arrived and to answer any questions we had about the apartment, the neighborhood or touring Rome. She provided us with an Italian cell phone and a phone number so we could call her if necessary, but our needs were well provided for during our stay. The apartment was very clean, roomy and homey, and Shelley has thoughtful touches everywhere. All of the basics you might need are provided: microwave, TV, linens, towels, dishes and pots, some basic pantry staples such as salt, pepper, tea coffee, oil and vinegar, even a small washing machine.
Being part of the Trastevere neighborhood was one of the highlights of our trip. Outdoor restaurants, gelaterias, and gifts shops were mixed in with local grocery stores, cafes and pharmacies. The neighborhood is also host to a wonderful mix of people: local residents, Italian families, and European and American tourists. Trastevere seems especially popular with Romans and other Europeans.
If you don’t need the services of a hotel (no front desk!) and aren’t afraid to plunge in on your own, this is a terrific place. We were traveling as husband, wife, college-aged son, and high school senior daughter, and there was something here for everyone. Shelley, thanks for a great stay, we can’t wait to return!
