I travel all over the world and have experienced 5 star hotels that live up to their reputation. Overall it was a nice experience - the hotel has a great location and the service is above average. The room are large and comfortable. And the bathroom are large with large tubs, lots of hot water and good H20 pressure.
Where the hotel lacks is as follows: A would-be manager named Alessandro was snobbish -- when you're spending $500 Euro a night for a room and staying there 4 nights, you don't want attitude, arrogance or dishonesty. The hotel speaks for itself, you don't need to be arrogant to portray the hotel in a higher category. Other than that it was a perfect stay.

Management response from Paolo Falchi, Guest Relation
(Management representative)

Dear Mr. Hanson,

Thank you very much for your reply.

I just spoke to my collegue Alessandro about the event.

He confirmed exactly what you reported, even if i had no doubt about your version.

I do not want to respond to you referring to what Alessandro said or what attitude he though he had :

You should find it negative, not constructive, to you.

I trust your sensation and i say: we apologize for that.

Hope you believe us, it is not usual we have a complaint about our staff attitude.

We will think about this episode, trying not to make the same mistake in the future.

As you kindly reported, you probably will come again in Rome this summer.

We will appreciate if you would like to give us a second chance, booking again St.George Hotel.

Thanking you for the attention and remaining at your complete disposal,

We send you our

Kindest regards,

Antonio Incarico

We stayed at the St. George's Hotel in October 08. The location was superb!Right in the middle of 'old' Rome and east walking distance to EVERYTHING!

Although we were a little disappointed with the frontage of the hotel, the interior was great and the reception staff helpful and friendly.

We had booked a double room and, although there was everything there that you would expect from a 5 * hotel, the room was a little small. I would recommend up-grading the room, especially if your stay is for a special occasion.

We only had breakfast at the hotel which was self-service and plentiful.

Overall, a really nice hotel.

The hotel is located about 5 minutes walking from piazza Navona. The only problem was that there is not any train station or subway close to the hotel, but in rome you are going to walk all round.

Stayed at this hotel over the Easter break. Enjoyed our stay very much.

Pros: Great location, great staff, flexible... allowed a very late check out! The rooms are high nicely finished

Cons: Expensive! Room service Burger and chips is 26 Euro! Didnt taste it just in case it wasnt best burger in the world! Rome does have free mineral water coming out of every crevice on the streets, you would think they could at least provide you with 1 bottle for free.

But all these things are easily available a short walk from the Hotel so I would stay there again for sure.

We stayed at the St George for 5 nights over New Year. Having orgininally booked the Exedra, we decided we wanted a more intimate hotel and found the St George. The location was also better, inbetween the Vatican, Trastevere and the Spanish Steps area, close to Piazza Navona on a lovely cobbled street surrounded by small restaurants and boutiques. If like us you like to avoid transport on holiday, you can walk everywhere from this location and get a bit of exercise (max walk was probably 30 mins to the Colosseum). The hotel itself was lovely, total understated luxury. The room was on the 5th floor with a double balcony and was modern yet charming. We loved it. The breakfast included was great to start the day but other meals were expensive (the Euro didn't help!) so we ate out every night. The roof terrace looked amazing but closed as it was Dec. Also lovely to have a pool and spa after a long day in cold Rome! If you like luxury but try to avoid the big chain hotels then I would highly recommend the St George.
