If you want to stay at Hotel Chicago, Rome, please try any other hotel.
We had just one day to stay in Rome and wanted to make it the most productive. Though we did not expect any luxury for the price, several things are unacceptable at any price. Our Internet reservation was for two double-bed rooms – upon arrival both had a single matrimonial bed. That was solved quite quickly, and the rooms were surprisingly clean. I asked to be woken up at seven (a service provided according to the room menu): On the first morning they simply forgot to ring, we woke up at nine to the shouting of some other angry hotel guest, almost lost the chance to check out the pathetic “continental breakfast”, served at the reception (with room for only six people at a time, no plates, and a limited number of mugs – ask for another coffee before you finish the first one and see for yourself!). After breakfast the attendant informed us that we “should have been informed the previous night” that the creditcard machine was broken – and we would have to pay cash (Checking the site http://www.trav.com/wri-7031/HotelChicagoRoma/Reviews you can see this problem is chronical, at least since april 2007, so there seems to be no interest in solving it – WHY?). I repeated the request to be woken up at seven the following morning, and this time they rang at 6AM! This was my first time in Italian Hotels, so I sincerely hope that not all are like this.

  • Liked — Cleanliness of room and bathrooms
  • Disliked — Does not accept credit card though lies otherwise on internet for almost a year.

This is a small rather spartan budget hotel. It is well located near the termini train station with easy access to Rome's sights.
Our room was clean and cheerfully decorated. The bathroom was adequate.
The two twin beds were the narrowest -- and hardest -- I've ever slept on. I imagine this is what you get in jail. The first time I rolled over, I landed on the floor with a thud. That's how narrow it was.
The hotel doesn't really have a lobby. You leave the "office," where the front desk is located, go outside and enter the hotel itself via another door. There's no elevator.
There are several rooms located in a pod. To gain access, you have to be buzzed in by the front desk.
The entrance is in a small courtyard with apartments and businesses on the opposite side. This isn't so great if one of your neighbors decides to play loud music or have a loud conversation into the wee hours of the morning. That happened a couple of nights.
The breakfast isn't worth the trouble.
The guy at the front desk demanded payment in cash. He claimed the credit card machine was out of order. At first, I refused, but finally acquiesced.
The hotel is OK for what it is, and given the weak dollar, is bareable. But I was glad to leave.

  • Liked — Near train station

I REALLY enjoyed our stay at the Chicago Hotel. I was newly redecorated and had georgous rooms, very clean and even beautifully decorated. For the price, I was surprised. The TV, AC, bidet, worked great. The breakfast was really good, the staff really helpful. We only stayed for one night and on the first floor, as my Mom is disabled, but I can't say what up higher would have been like. I don't think there was an elevator, but the guy at the desk happily carried the bags up anyway. It was the best deal for the price. Gorgeous hotel, and I would suggest it to anyone.

We were a little concerned when we located Hotel Chicago near the train station in Rome. Not the best area, but we felt a little better after walking the area. Hotel was small with rooms that were all modern and small. No lift, but we were on second floor and desk clerk helped us upstairs with our luggage. When we booked on Venere.com, the website said that the hotel had air conditioning. Yes it does, but for 10 more euro/day!! We were never told that when we made the reservation. And a very warm time of the year, so we had to pay for the air conditioning. Very noisy in the halls - people coming and going. Breakfast was not a lot of choices. The people were very nice and friendly, but I would not stay there again and would not recommend this hotel.
