I stayed at the Residence Mallia for a week, in two different rooms, in July 2009. The hotel is advertised as four-star but it is absolutely not four-star. It's a decent, good value, three-star hotel. The building is old but the rooms and interior spaces have been renovated and have perfectly decent, new, updated decorations and fittings. The hotel is quiet in the evenings, as there is no nightlife in the area, but gets busy and noisy early in the morning (maid service, thin walls, people playing music at the pool). Would be a great place for families with small children who go to sleep early and get up early. Note that this hotel is not in central Rome at all, and you must take a regional train (not subway or metro) to get into the city. Fortunately, the closest railway station is located on the same block. Nice pool, easy parking, and decent standard continental breakfast.
