This hotel was interesting. If I had been traveling as I do with student groups, then it would have been good in comparison, but I had been staying in 5 star hotels in Florence and Venice with my husband, so it was a bit of a disappointment. The room was large and clean. So that was good. The breakfast was decent, but it was served in the room, and the selection was limited to a list without unlimited refills of juice. Now before you say I'm a spoiled American, most hotels in Europe where I have stayed, even the lower budget ones made available unlimited juice in the mornings. There is a very small lift. This was fine. We only used it to take our luggage up and down when checking in and out. The room had only two windows. One was in the adjoining room, so no light came into the bedroom, and the other window was by the cave-like shower and looked out onto a balcony which housed the vacuum, cleaning products, and a pack of cigarettes for the housekeeping staff. If you can look past those goodies, you can see the crevace between the rooms. This wasn't too big of a deal except that the balcony was shared with a door that opened to the hallway. Hmmm.... The hotel was quiet. You have to have a key to enter after hours. The staff was helpful. The woman on the day shift was very good. She set up a car for transport to the airport for our departure. The young man working the night shift was odd. He had a very high-pitched voice that was a surprise. The room decor was odd too. The walls are covered in patterned fabric. Everything is covered in patterned fabric. The location was excellent. It is very close to the Spanish Steps, Trevi fountain, etc. It's a few doors down from Tiffany's. Overall, I guess the hotel was okay. The lack of seeing the outside world was a bit disconcerting though. Perhaps if the flatscreen TV received BBC World or something else besides the one channel of wacky Italian programming, the lack of windows would not have fazed me. My husband thought the room was fine. He saw no problems. The fabric covered walls, lack of natural light, and falsetto concierge made me feel trapped in a David Lynch film. Surreal. Fortunately, we didn't spend too much time in the room since we WERE in Rome, but again, the experience at this hotel was idiosyncratic to say the least.
