We have had a fabulous few days in Rome, and this apartments location, just a 2 minute walk from the Piazza Navona helped make it so. It's a great price for this location and a lovely retro style apartment, plenty big enough with a good kitchen facility and a pc with internet access. The electrics were dodgy and often completely blacked out, but we quickly realised that all was required in these events was a trip down the main hallway of the building to the electric box that serviced the entire building, where the trip could be reset.

The main problem however, was the service provided by the owners which was very poor. We were moved from our original choice of apartment at the last second and as compensation they offered us a free taxi transfer which we were pleased with. However, the taxi took us to the wrong apartment (we never actually got to the bottom of whether this was the fault of Retrome or the taxi company), the taxi driver was very helpful and telephoned Retrome for us to confirm the location he had apparantely been provided. They confirmed this to him and said someone was on their way to let us in. 20 mins later, still no sign. He rang again which is when he was informed that we were indeed at the wrong apartment, so another 10 mins in the cab and we were outside of the correct one. Still no sign of Retrome staff however. After 20 minutes Benji arrived and let us in. By this point we'd had a very long journey and spent the last hour messing around and waiting, in the middle of the night. We politely expressed out discontent to Benji about this, who as good as laughed at us and told us that 'worse things could have happened on the journey than that'. Naturally we found this attitude worrying and had we not just given up and paid him his money, I am convinced he would have argued his case all night to us, which at the end of the day would only have spoilt our holiday.

We also had an Italian gentleman turn up mid morning each day who spoke no English, walk through the apartment to the balcony in the kitchen with a big bag of laundry. He put this in a cupboard and took another bag out, then left again. We were there for 2 of his visits but out the other 2 days so presume he has a key. This is not something Retrome had made us aware of, after the first day I emailed them to check we are ok to be letting him in and whether to expect him again, but I am still awaiting my reply.

I suppose for future reference, don't expect sympathy if you have a complaint, don't be surprised if the accomodation you book is not what you end up with, and expect a little bit of waiting around on your arrival night. If your expectations are set like this, you can't be dissappointed, and overall it was a great place full of character in a fantastic location.

We arrived in Rome May 23rd + were greeted by sidekick to person who runs the Termin istation joint. The elevator up is wide enough for my shoulders to touch each side. Once inside the place it was more subdued than website. The room although tiny fit our needs as did the kitchen and shared bathroom. We returned June 12th but this time no one greeted us. We called and about 1 hour later, sidekick showed up. We were told renos were happening and therefore no access to room. We were taken to Colosseum Retrome apartment. We were not too happy as we chose the train station because of proximity to everything including airport. Never got to see famous magic show from guy I only spoke to over the phone.

We were 3 students traveling together, and originally booked the RetRome bed and breakfast by Termini. Due to some logistical issues we wound up getting upgraded to stay in the Coliseum apartment for no extra charge! The accommodations were much nicer than we expected, and Benji and Moti are really friendly and helpful. They're both in their late 20s, so they knew the sorts of things 20-somethings would be interested in seeing. The apartment setting would probably be great for families, too.

Retrome navona is located very centrally - a short walk away from Piazza Navona. That makes it very good. There is a supermarket in the same block - hence shoppingis easy. Good for the family with children.

The place is very run down - virtually no maintenance at all. Everything looks old and run down - which it is. Hot water runs out after a while - our daughter decided to take a slightly long bath and then there was no hot water for a while. The place definitely needs sprucing up. No TV connection - the internet works very well though.

OK for a short break - but maybe we will not go back to this propoerty again - given a choice.

  • Liked — The location
  • Disliked — Upkeep of the place and lack of maintenance

We just returned from Rome and was very happy with the Retrome Navona. The location cannot be beat. We had 6 people (3 adluts & 3 teenagers) plenty of room. Only one bathroom so schedule quick showers or it there will be no hot water. Could have been a bit cleaner but would absolutely stay there again. Owner very accommodating and friendly. (Please note the owner has other properties in Rome so not all of the reviews shown as Retrome Navona on TripAdvisor are for this property.).
