I really enjoyed my stay at Serendipity. The room was very large for European standards and even had a terrace where I enjoyed my morning coffee. The overall condition of the room was about average and the staff were definitely a cut above in terms of friendliness and hospitality. The hotel is centrally located and accessible by foot in less than 10 minutes from the Termini train station. I left my luggage in the care of the person at reception on my final day and had no problems upon my return some 10 hours later. My only complaint would be the breakfast that was provided. It was a bit meager, but then again, I would never judge a budget hotel by its breakfast. For the price, I would definitely stay here again and recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a moderately priced convenient hotel in Rome.

  • Liked — The terrace, bathroom and large room

This was the worst part of our trip to Italy and is the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. The manager was friendly upon our arrival but after our meeting with him, everything went downhill from there. The room we were given was dirty and had nasty stains all over the sheets and bedspread from the previous occupants. There was no heat in our room and when we asked for someone to come fix it, the desk manager couldn't figure it out after over 30 minutes of trying. We then asked for additional blankets because it was freezing in our room and the hotel claimed they had none available and weren't able to help us. Beyond having a freezing room the hotel staff were unable to get our television to work and seemed overall incompetent. We asked for a discount on our room due to the lack of heat and the filthiness of the bed and surroundings and we were promised a discount from the manager Riccardo himself. We never received the discount, never received money back and were lied to. Upon returning home we found that we each had scabies from the bedding (bed bugs that crawl under your skin and lay eggs) and I had caught pneumonia from sleeping in the freezing room. DO NOT STAY at this hotel if you want to enjoy your time in Rome. It's a horrible dirty place and the manager is not true to his word.

  • Liked — The only thing that was positive was our greeting from the staff and theie maps of the city
  • Disliked — The room, the service, the lies told to us by the manager, the fact that we never receieved our discount

We were very happy to be greeted with a bottle of water, and were pleasantly suprised when shown to our room. Our expectations had been pretty low, but the room was quite big (especially the bathroom), and clean. My first comment was "if this is the worst place we stay on this trip, we'll be doing OK". We found the location great. About a 10 min stroll to the train station. We found some pretty good places to eat near here (can't remember the names, sorry). Coffee machine in the hotel wasn't working when we were there, but there are plenty of places around for coffee. Unless you are on a very strict budget, don't bother trying the breakfast, it was decidedly below average. All in all, we were happy with this hotel, and would stay here again.

Picked this place because it is near to the station. It's about a 10 minute walk. Often the area around the station isn't so nice, but the location of the serendipity was quite nice. The room was quite big, very clean but the decor was average. We didn't have any problem with the lift (elevator) - I think what the previous poster encountered must have been people failing to close the door when they leave the lift (it's an old-style lift where you open and close the door yourself). Reception is 24 hour and very friendly and helpful. They made a dinner reservation for us.

If you need a fairly reasonably priced (for Rome) place near the station then it is a good bet, but we will probably try another place next time.

We just returned from a trip to Rome (end of October) with a week stay at this hotel. I guess I might stay there again (very nice staff); however, some things to note: [1] Although very close to the train station (about 5 blocks away), it was across a busy road (not what I would consider a "highway" as written in another post), and if you come at night, you better know what the hotel looks like since there are no signs that give its location; [2] The internet is free (in 15 minute increments); however, you have to go down the street to an internet cafe to use it. Although it is on the way to the train station, it was quite inconvenient since you could only use it during their hours of operation, and you had to schedule your internet use around them; and [3] The breakfast area was off site too. Across this busy intersection (especially during rush hour). The price was great and the room clean.

  • Liked — The location, the staff, and the cleanliness
  • Disliked — The off-site locations of the internet and the breakfast area
