We stayed at the momi bed and breakfast fro 4 nights on 18th April 2008. The hotel was fantastic although they do not have a sign so can be hard to find although saying that we found it quite easy as Alessandro emailed us before we arrived. Once you are on the street look for the 'yellow ORO sign' and it is just pass that and the buzzer on the door states 'momi b&b'.
Upon arrival we were met with a very warm welcome and greeted at the door. We were given the bali room which I requested which was a lovely room...spotlessly clean and decorated lovely all in Indonesian style. The rooms are not overly large but plenty big enough for a city break stay....I have stayed in much smaller in London!!!
We were given a map upon arrival and shown where all the points of interest were. We walked to the coliseum which was about a 20 min stroll. We purchased a ROMA PASS which I would recommend which was 20 euros. The first 2 attractions and or museums you visit are free of charge and then discounted at all the others. You also get a metro pass which we used alot and both passes are valid for 3 days. We used our first visit to the coliseum which was 11 euros each. Also no no need to queue you just walked past everyone which was great. All in all this is a great value pass as you more than get your monies worth.
The area that the hotel is in does not look very desirable, although do not let this put you off as the hotel is fantastic. We never saw any trouble and never experienced any problems strolling out late at night.
Breakfast at the hotel was also great self service between 0800 - 1000. Everything from toast, cereal, yogart, croisants, jams, all kinds of twinnings tea, coffee, juices, help yourself to as much as you want. We took our breakfast back to our room which suited us fine.
The hotel was very secure and we left passports, mobile phones, pods and money in the room with no problems. Think sometimes us English people can be a little mistrusting!!!!
We also used the bus and metro to get from ciampino airport to the hotel and back again. The bus is 1.20 euros and the metro is 1.20 euros tickets can be bought at ciampino airport. You can use the terrovision bus but to be honest at 8 euros one way the bus and metro are just as easy and alot cheaper. The bus took approx 15 mins to get to ANAGANINA metro station, then the metro took another 10-15 mins. The metro is very simple to use and operates exactly the same as the tube in London.
On our return to the airport we found out that the coach back to ciampino only operates every 40mins so make sure you allow for this when getting to the airport on time.
Meals out varied between 30 - 45 euros including 1 drink each starter and main course each. Although if you are going to eat out by the main attractions this could double, yet if you wander just off down the side streets it is so much more reasonable.
We were lucky we stayed just near to the best ice cream place it was huge and sold every variety possible (although cant remember the name) if you leave the hotel cross the road and turn left about 200 metres down the road you cant miss it (always busy even at 12.30 at night!!! It is the best ice cream I have ever tasted and at 1.50 euros - 3 euros (they are huge) it was a great cheap dessert every night.
I cannot recommend the momi B&B enough it is a fab place to stay and fairly reasonable price compared to other accommodation available for a lesser standard. Please do not be put off by the area(although alot of Rome is very dirty with litter and graffiti which did surprise me) as the hotel is a little hidden gem.....in a great location for the metro and attractions.
