We have just returned from a week in Rome. We stayed here at Hotel Prati close to the Vatican City. We found this hotel to be of excellent value. The rooms are small but very clean and the rooms are made daily. The hotel staff are very friendly especially two of the front end men; Franco and Fabio. They make you feel welcome every time you walk in from your long day out. The entrance is very clean and neat. There is a small rather cute little elevator that will take you up to floors 1 - 4. The traffic noise is rather noisey, if your room faces the main road, however you will only have to suffer from this if you are a light sleeper; I had no trouble at all. We searched for weeks to get this place, and it is excellent value for money indeed.

  • Liked — It was very clean and in a great location
  • Disliked — Kind of small and no breakfast option

I would like to express my satisfaction in staying in this small but very nice hotel. First its position: so close to the Vatican City and also to the shopping area of Via Cola di Rienzo with many fancy shops. Also the management simply perfect, helpful and kind. Rooms are tidy and clean. I was really happy to spend my week in Rome with the Prati Hotel staff!
thank you again. pat from zurich

Hotel Prati - Rome, Italy
December 11 - 18, 2007
This is a small style hotel with small rooms. I was traveling alone visiting my son his last week at college (study abroad program). When I say small I mean small. But, it was perfect. No need for room when you are by yourself. I stayed there for 4 days in the single room. Then when my son was finished with his semester he moved in with me and we upgraded into a two bed room. It was fine for our needs. We had a slight medical emergency and the hotel staff was more than helpful helping us get in touch with a doctor at midnight.

The location is fine for walking to any of your standard tourist spots in Rome. Also, there is a bus stop not far from the hotel which is helpful when you get the hang of the bus system. The Metro is not far away either.

All in all I was very satisfied with the hotel.

The hotel Prati is a great value for the money! It is NOT the most comfortable hotel if you plan to spend a lot of time in a large, comfortable room - but then, there is so much to see and do in Rome, that we only used the hotel to sleep in between our many outings.
The location is fantastic - one can walk to most of Rome's major attractions - and if you want to go a bit futher away, the Metro (subway) is located within a less than 10min leisurely walk from the hotel.
Shortfalls: the rooms are very, very small as well as the bathrooms - but, all is clean and well maintained. There is a new elevator (lift) installed which makes moving the luggage quite comfortable.
The "towels" used in the bathrooms are "Italian style" which to some travellers made feel odd. They are very absorbant thin sheets of cotton similar to a bedsheet - so don't expect the usual thick, soft, plushy hoteltowels.
IF you book a double room - do not expect ONE bed (such as American King size or Queen size) - but simply two twin beds pushed together.
The location as great as it is - maybe a bit noisy at times (major intersection) - but during late-night (sleeping time) it's very quiet and fine.

The staff is very helpful - especially Franco who helped us much! They speak reasonably good English which also helps a lot when having questions about trips and attractions etc.

Highly recommend you see the Sistine Chappell and the Vatican Museum - and of course St. Peters Cathedral - all just minutes walking distance from this hotel.

Major other attractions such as the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps and the Panthenon are within about 20-30min leisurely walk from the hotel. The Collosseum and Forum Romanum/Circus Maximus is about a 20min ride on the subway.

  • Liked — Location, makes you feel like home
  • Disliked — Very small rooms - and a bit noisy!

We stayed at Hotel Prati in Aug. 2007. The rooms are average sized except for the bathroom which is claustrophobic. It is difficult for 2 persons to be in the bathroom at the same time. The shower had a curtain but still there was almost a flood after showering. For two days we didn’t even have hot water. Towels are horrible.

Some of the furniture should also be updated. The room is well equipped with a mini bar, tv, fan and a safe deposit box

The breakfast is AWFUL!!!! Do not choose this hotel because breakfast is included in the price. We had to go out and buy breakfast because the breakfast at Prati was so limited.

Hotel Prati is close to many attractions, but the hotel is overpriced. Our stay was not what I had expected.

Management response from RomaLui, proprietario
(Management representative)

The hotel is run by a new ownership and it has been completely renovated.
Breakfast is not served anymore where now there is a lounge with Internet point and TV set.
Furthermore, all the curtains in the showers have been changed with sliding door boxes and the towels are changed every day.
