Having read all the reviews we were a little worried, however I think that some people forget that you get what you pay for.
As 2 students looking for a bargain but used to cheap 4/5* hotels from friends working within the industry we were wondering what to expect from a 3* in the centre of Rome.

Yes it was basic and small but it was pleasant and clean and when in a city all you want is somewhere clean to sleep, shower and change which is what we got. We stayed for 2 nights, As you first enter the hotel it is very grand and beatiful and the staircase makes it look a lot more than a 3*. the first night the room was small but clean - padded fabric panels gave the room a romantic feel. The bathroom was long and narrow and smelt strongly of damp but again, not a huge problem seen as you don't spend alot of time in your room. Shower was adequate and if you sat on the toilet sideways fine! The second night whilst getting changed the electricity went off - after an hour of trying to get back on in our room we had to switch to a different room, the second room was much larger with a much nicer bathroom which looked as though it had recently been done out. Breakfast was basic - bread rolls, butter, jam, tea, coffee, orange, pastries but again nice that it was thrown in with the price.
Overall I would say a pleasant stay and a bargain for what we paid. I do think that I have quite high expectations but do like to be realistic about these things! I would certainly stay again if visiting rome.

This hotel is very centrally positioned and great for tourists.
The hotel is a smaller establishment with one smallish lift that may require a couple of trips if you have largish bags. The room was clean and well heated. The bathroom had been recently re done and was superb...well except for the size of the shower. This shower was made for people who did not have arms or the need to clean their feet!
The hotel did have internet but you needed to buy a card and sit in the hotel lounge. The staff were friendly and did give some advice but not very forth coming.

We stayed here one night pre cruise on the Queen Victoria. Booked by travel agent. Having read so many recent poor reviews we seriously considered staying elsewhere and forgetting the cost.
We were glad we went - friendly, helpful reception, lovely room with city views, perhaps a bit small but others had large rooms. Everything clean, and in working order, spotless bathroom and plenty of toiletries. Breakfast was vast with a big , regularly replaced selection - well situated , a short walk (with cases) to the main railway terminal.

Nov 12, 2008 | Trip type: Friends getaway

We stayed here for 2 nights in Nov 08 on a weekend trip to Rome.

We chose the hotel because we needed a triple room and when I did an internet search, it came up and had a great price and was in a very central location - we couldnt believe our luck!

It was ideal for the train station for getting to and from airport or other areas of Italy. And it was very easy to find on Via Viminale, right next to the Opera house. We were able to walk to the Colliseum in about 20 mins along interesting streets and the Nazionale Street is very close by. The Spanish Steps were about 20 mins away too but so much to see on the route there.

Checking in and out was easy and the best thing was that we could store our bags securely after checking out to explore the city further before leaving for the airport on our final day.

Our room was on the third floor was clean but small for the 3 of us but we didnt mind as we were only sleeping there and were out all day. We had twin beds and a sofabed. Perfectly comfortable.

Bathroom was nicer than expected but the water was only lukewarm the first morning but fine the second morning.

We didnt have the breakfast as we werent up in time but from the looks of things, we didnt miss much. We found some lovely cafe's very nearby to have breakfast.

If you are more interested in location than luxury or comfort, than this place is unbeatable value.

Although the hotel was in a pretty good area as far as getting around (close to the train station, the opera, and within walking distance of all the big sights) the hotel was pretty miserable. Rome was our third stop on a 2 week tour of Europe and although our room was pretty big, it had a pretty bad smell in it that didn't go away! Whenever we were in the room we had the window open trying to air it out and whatever air circulation contraption was thrown into the ceiling on trying to get the air moving, but the maids would shut the window and shut off the air so our room was smelly and stagnant when we got home at night. The shower curtain had mold growing on it and I was afraid to let it touch me. All the grout was cracked and there were cobwebs hanging from the ceiling near the bed. There was no way to lock the door from the inside either. I do not think this hotel should have 3 stars. I also don't think they should be allowed to advertise a breakfast of any sort when all that is offered is cereal, one type of pastry, and a couple cold boiled eggs. What a nightmare!
