I stayed at the Happy Holiday B&B last summer for four nights with my boyfriend, and I cannot recommend it highly enough.
One of the only downsides is that initially it's a a bit difficult to find, but the positives totally outweigh this, and once you find it you definitely won't lose it again.
The B&B is on the third, fourth and fifth floors of a typical Roman townhouse and is very cool and airy. The manager, Damiano, gave us a quick talk as soon as we arrived about where to go to eat, what to see, and how to get there (Happy Holiday is extremely well connected to all the main attractions, its a 5min bus ride away and it is nice to get a feel for the local transport system). Damiano also marked everything on a map he gave to us which was extremely helpful. Overall he was a very attentive and helpful host and was always around to answer any questions.
The room we had was larger than we had anticipated, was furnished in a modern style and was very airy and light. It also had air conditioning which we were not expecting. We also had a shared bathroom (it is substantially cheaper than having a private bathroom) and we found this to be adequate for our needs. There were 2 bathrooms for 3 bedrooms which was more than enough and we never had to wait to use the bathroom.
There was also a complimentary buffet breakfast included in the room rate, and this for us was the best part. There was a small-ish but fully equipped kitchen on our floor (shared with the other 2 bedrooms) and this was well stocked with various Italian breakfast food (don't expect fresh bread and cereal but it was definitely enough for us). It meant we could eat breakfast at whatever time we wanted and weren't restricted by a specific time. We were also encouraged by Damiano to cook meals there if we so chose and we frequently made tea and coffee in there. It also had a small balcony which even though looked out onto the surrounding houses was still a nice addition to the room.
There are also several good restaurants within 5min walk of the B&B, along with a newsagent type place and a few cafes. The amenities are generally very good.
Overall I would recommend this place to anyone who has a budget but doesn't want to compromise on quality. It's in a great location, the rooms were large and airy and the added bonus of being able to eat whenever we wanted made it a fantastic place to stay.
