I stayed at the Happy Holiday B&B last summer for four nights with my boyfriend, and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

One of the only downsides is that initially it's a a bit difficult to find, but the positives totally outweigh this, and once you find it you definitely won't lose it again.

The B&B is on the third, fourth and fifth floors of a typical Roman townhouse and is very cool and airy. The manager, Damiano, gave us a quick talk as soon as we arrived about where to go to eat, what to see, and how to get there (Happy Holiday is extremely well connected to all the main attractions, its a 5min bus ride away and it is nice to get a feel for the local transport system). Damiano also marked everything on a map he gave to us which was extremely helpful. Overall he was a very attentive and helpful host and was always around to answer any questions.

The room we had was larger than we had anticipated, was furnished in a modern style and was very airy and light. It also had air conditioning which we were not expecting. We also had a shared bathroom (it is substantially cheaper than having a private bathroom) and we found this to be adequate for our needs. There were 2 bathrooms for 3 bedrooms which was more than enough and we never had to wait to use the bathroom.

There was also a complimentary buffet breakfast included in the room rate, and this for us was the best part. There was a small-ish but fully equipped kitchen on our floor (shared with the other 2 bedrooms) and this was well stocked with various Italian breakfast food (don't expect fresh bread and cereal but it was definitely enough for us). It meant we could eat breakfast at whatever time we wanted and weren't restricted by a specific time. We were also encouraged by Damiano to cook meals there if we so chose and we frequently made tea and coffee in there. It also had a small balcony which even though looked out onto the surrounding houses was still a nice addition to the room.

There are also several good restaurants within 5min walk of the B&B, along with a newsagent type place and a few cafes. The amenities are generally very good.

Overall I would recommend this place to anyone who has a budget but doesn't want to compromise on quality. It's in a great location, the rooms were large and airy and the added bonus of being able to eat whenever we wanted made it a fantastic place to stay.

Our first three day stay was good. The kitchen was not well stocked, no juice or milk most mornings for breakfast. Both the rooms and bathroom were clean, however a bit smelly in the kitchen due to the drain. The room was huge and quite comfortable. The double glazed windows block out the noise. The location was great about 10 min stroll to the colosseum and 5 mins to the metro station. Very good for the price. However we were suppose to stay again at the end of our trip for one night and we received a text message late in the afternoon the day before we were to check in saying they could not accommodate us due to a "burst tube", our B&B owner in Florence was horrified and said that it was an excuse for a double booking and that they should have provided us with alternate accommodation options and paid the price difference if there was one. Fortunatly he allowed us to use his internet to book another place. I would recommend it, it is good value for money and the staff was friendly just a little concerned with the reliability.

We have been to HH B&B in February and it was better than we expected. Position is fantastic, just 10 minutes walking down a street from the Colosseum, minuted from all transportation lines. Rooms are large and clean, bathroom can be single or shared. Smells a little dampy. Breakfast is ok, but don't expect continental style with eggs and bacon. You'll get coffee, a lot of cookies, juice and milk and cereals, which are great. You can cook your own food if you like. Upon arrival in Rome, make sure you call the owner and/or check your email because sometimes he switches location as they have more than one. Ask him about his telephone number(s), call and be insistent, ask for all details you can think of. Argue about the unnanounced location change if you like. We didn't want to argue, as we liked the (new) location.

The hotel is very well positioned, but quite hard to find in the absence of a map or logo. Take your time, and don't despair. It is located where it should be.

Damiano - the owner - is really nice and supportive. He provided invaluable tips on sights and locations, on transportation, food and restaurants. He even reserved a place for us at Galleria Borghese, which I was most impressed about him doing.

Overall, HH was worth all the money and even a little more for the beggining of February. I don't know how rates are in the summer months. We will return there if in Rome any time soon.

This place is really central: 5 minutes to metro station piazza san giovanni in laterano, 1 block from bus station. The hosts are very helpful and friendly. The rooms are clean and, compared to a typical roman hotel room, quite large. The views are nice: no looking into somebidy else's bathroom or staring at a wall. The kitchen is "help-yourself", which is great because you can eat breakfast whenever you want to and, if you don't like the food the hosts have stocked, you can just get your own stuff and prepare it there. This is great if you're on a budget because you can eat lots of meals at the b&b. The bathroom is also very clean and large and has a mid-sized shower and a bidet. There's usually liquid hand soap, shampoo and shower gel for communal use. Towels are also supplied by the b&b (many affordable places either don't supply them or supply worn out, way too small towels, happy holiday's towels are great). The best thing is that they have free wireless internet and an "internet point", where you can use the b&b's desktop computer to surf the web. The beds are made daily but I think that's all. When you check in, you get a key for the building, the appartment and your room, so there's no curfew and you can come and go whenever you please. Make sure you bring an adapter along, even if you have the Eureopean plugs, they don't really fit into the outlets. If you forget one, just ask Damiano (the owner) and he'll get you however many you need!

The accomodation at Happy Holidays was clean and comfortable at a very affordable price. The bed and breakfast had a central location with easy access to buses and metro stations as well as being within walking distance of many sights. The hosts were friendly and went out of their way to make our stay in Rome enjoyable.
