Excellent location, very helpful and welcoming service, and practical facilities.
Happy Holiday is really a set of two classic Roman apartments - one on the third floor and one on the fourth floor - where each room is converted to double bedrooms with a shared kitchen and bathrooms. The office on the fourth floor is just a desk with computer. Our room was a converted living room and therefore large, but next to the kitchen, so we were disturbed by other guests using the kitchen as a meeting point. On the other hand, it was great to have 24-hour access to the kitchen for coffee and snacks - we were even able to make quick meals. Damiano and Laura went out of their way to make our stay comfortable - lots of advice and unexpected help from a busy couple.
Because the hosts don't live at the hotel, there are difficulties in checking in and in keeping contact with them, but there were so many advantages in staying here: easy access to bus transport to any key point in Rome, to local restaurants, local internet points, to the Sacred Steps and to the Lateran, to the Metro ... The rooms were clean and well-serviced, but the two toilets are shared with four rooms. The hot water is slow.
After our return to Rome two weeks later we stayed in a more central full hotel at 130% of what we paid at Happy Holiday, but without the welcoming, helpful service and with horrible coffee and stale minimal breakfast and in seedy surroundings. We wished we had come back to Happy Holiday.
