We were staying there for five nights and we would repeat it for sure. The place is very nice, the rooms are huge and lovely. The breakfast delicious in a bar near there. The staff friendly and Rome so interesting and exotic. I would repeat exactly the same as i did, because it was a very good time. Thanks for the acommodation and the friendship.

We had a very good time! (and a horrible weather :-P) The B&B is 10 min away from the Coliseo and has several public transports just in front of the building. The staff is simply great, very friendly and kind. Rooms are very nice and comfortable, with a lot of space. Don't hesitate to taste the Caffe Latte for breakfast! Absolutely recommendable!

This "bed and breakfast" is badly organised and more like a hostel than a hotel. Although it is a lot cheaper than many places in Rome so you're getting what you paid for.

Firstly, when our party of 5 (4 adults and a toddler) turned up early our quadruple room (adjoining rooms) was not quite ready, which was fine, the man told us the maid would be there within the hour to finish it off. After going out for 5 or 6 hours we returned at 8pm and the room still hadn't been made up. We called the owner and he said someone would be there shortly to sort it out. We had been up very early that day (4am) for our flight so a short wait would be ok. TWO HOURS later someone turned up and because our daughter was already asleep we had them just give us a pile of sheets, pillows and blankets and we made the beds up ourselves. And our 2nd double bed was 2 fold out singles that we pushed together and were extremely uncomfortable. The next morning when the owner arrived he apologised profusely and refunded half the rooms rent, so we were happy with that.

Secondly, there is no ensuite bathroom or even a bathroom shared between 2 rooms as the website claims. There was one bathroom shared between our quadruple room (essentially 2 rooms) as well as 2 other rooms = 8 adults! Both mornings we were there it took our group 2 hours to get ready due to having to wait for the bathroom. We had to line up outside the bathroom as though we were at some hostel or campground. They could have at least had a separate toilet, or sinks in each room.

Despite these big problems we found the staff always friendly and helpful, the rooms clean and there was always plenty of breakfast-type food in the kitchen that we could help ourselves to at anytime of the day.

  • Liked — The location
  • Disliked — Our room not being made up and having to share the bathroom with too many others.

Excellent location, very helpful and welcoming service, and practical facilities.

Happy Holiday is really a set of two classic Roman apartments - one on the third floor and one on the fourth floor - where each room is converted to double bedrooms with a shared kitchen and bathrooms. The office on the fourth floor is just a desk with computer. Our room was a converted living room and therefore large, but next to the kitchen, so we were disturbed by other guests using the kitchen as a meeting point. On the other hand, it was great to have 24-hour access to the kitchen for coffee and snacks - we were even able to make quick meals. Damiano and Laura went out of their way to make our stay comfortable - lots of advice and unexpected help from a busy couple.

Because the hosts don't live at the hotel, there are difficulties in checking in and in keeping contact with them, but there were so many advantages in staying here: easy access to bus transport to any key point in Rome, to local restaurants, local internet points, to the Sacred Steps and to the Lateran, to the Metro ... The rooms were clean and well-serviced, but the two toilets are shared with four rooms. The hot water is slow.

After our return to Rome two weeks later we stayed in a more central full hotel at 130% of what we paid at Happy Holiday, but without the welcoming, helpful service and with horrible coffee and stale minimal breakfast and in seedy surroundings. We wished we had come back to Happy Holiday.

  • Liked — Value for money
  • Disliked — Lack of contact with host.

I was in Rome for work and had my stay extended with 3 other colleagues where we moved to Happy Holiday thereafter. Just got home yesterday. For a start, we told the owner Damiano specificially that we need a minivan to pick us up from Sheraton Golf to his accomodation because we have 2 very big travelling bags. The driver came with a Mercedes sedan which could not fit all our bags. In the end, one of my colleagues had to carry his bag on his lap throughout the whole 45 mins journey.
After we arrived, we told him about the transport arrangement and he was kind enough to discount it lower. We were happy. Next, he told us that our bookings for Crazy Holiday is not possible because the pipe was broken in one of the rooms and it stunk the whole place. Note that Crazy Holiday and Happy Holiday have the same owner. I read in one of the reviews that this guest was also told that the pipe was broken in one of the rooms and he had to move. Looked to me like a common excuse Damiano uses.
Damiano told us that for the 1st night the 4 of us will have to bunk into the same room and he gave us the key to the bathroom. Note that it is NOT ensuite bathrooms as published on the net.
He said that he will give us another room on the 2nd day when the guest checks out and he reduced the price for us. He showed us on the map where to go around and told us everything's fine. We will have the other room by tomorrow and he will leave the key in our room.
On the 2nd day, we went out and came back in the evening to a note saying sorry he cannot give us the room and will only have it the next day. Price was reduced again to 100 euros a night for 4. In his note as well, he will give us the extra room at no extra charge.
By the 3rd day, no note nothing. We called but he did not pick up and asked us to text him. My colleague texted him and his reply was sorry no room and reduced the price of our room for the last night.
For the past 3 days we had no issues with the bathroom because we were told that the bathroom is for us only. There is another one in the same floor for other rooms. However, on the 4th day when we were due to check out, another guest told us that we should not lock our bathroom. He said that Damiano showed him our bathroom and said that it is shared. There was this huge argument and in the end we decided we will not argue, we will be leaving already.
We met Damiano and paid up and asked him about the bathroom and he said he told them it is not shared. In short, he LIED about everything from the first day promising us a room and the bathroom to the other guest.
Our stay was quite pleasant minus the part where he said we could get a room and then after that no. The incident on the last day totally spoilt everything. If he had mentioned earlier that the bathrooms are shared and he could not give us a room at all, it would have been better as he set the expectations rather than giving us empty promises.
In all fairness, if you want a budget accomodation this is a pretty good place. The rooms are clean and basic. Only that they do not change your towels everyday, no floor towel in the bath and no ensuite bath which could be quite a problem if you need to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. You will need to open the room door with a key and then head across to the bathroom. It's noisy. Ambulance siren blares constantly when we are in the room.
If you decide to pick this place, just becareful of what the owner promises you. Make it clear and set the expectations upfront and you should be fine. Don't end up like us. Having said that, I still will NOT recommend this place to anyone
