For a family, this is a great deal -- spacious apartment with a full kitchen located on a charming narrow street near St. Peters/ the Vatican (1 block north of Borgo Pio). Somewhat spare, but perfectly comfortable. Keep in mind that these are apartments, and not a full service hotel -- the office is open mornings, closed for lunch, then open 3 pm-8 pm (they charge 30 euro for check-in after 8 pm). The office staff is helpful and will arrange for pickup and dropoff at the airport (send an email to informazioni@borgopio2000.it to arrange (50 euro for 4 people, 60 euro for 5).) 10-12 min walk to the metro, easy stroll over Pont San'Angelo to Piazza Navona and the Parthenon. A few good -- if not fabulous-- restaurants are located nearby (we went to Da Romelo down the street, the one catty-corner to Da Romelo (friendly), Pupazzi (a bit more formal) on Borgo Pio and the takeout pizza place on Borgo Pio.)

I have just arrived back from Rome staying at the Borgo Pio 2000. Don't make the mistake that I did which was to get directions to Borgo Pio B & B which I think is in a completely different place as we walked round for three hours to find our apartments. Please note: the Borgo Pio 200i is on the street behind and running parallel to Borgo Pio.
On arrival, the lobby is well kept and elegant. The staff are lovely and help you with everything. The elevator was always prompt making it easy to get to the top floors. The apartments are clean, spacious and private. There was some noise from the main street at night but not much and personally I found it added to the relaxed holiday atmosphere.
The apartments are in a fantastic location and after exploring most of Romes districts I wouldn't have wanted to stay anywhere else!
Restaurant Angelica is okay but the apartments also recommend 'La Romana' which was low key, full of Italians and served great food.
Rome is a fab city and I would definitly recommend this place to my friends!

Borgo Pio 2000 is an ideal base for exploring the wonderful city of Rome! You could not ask for a better location, situated in the Vatican Walls, only 5 minutes walk from St.Peters Square and close to a host of local restaurants, bars, shops etc.
The Hotel, although basic, is well presented and the apartments are clean, tidy, well equiped and very spacious.
The staff are very friendly and helpful, although the office is not manned all of the time...we had to wait 5-10 mins on arrival before finding someone to check us in.
Not luxurious by any means but I would highly recommned Borgo Pio to anybody who is looking for a nice, clean base in a great location for exploring Rome and i would not hesitate in staying there again.

Borgo Pio 2000 is in a great location. The Vatican and nice Italian restaurants are only a few blocks away. We used all the tips in previous reviews and they are all true, except the bad beds. The TV has one english channel BBC World, a few German and rest Italian. Restaurant Angelico is excellent and bar Ciao has a decent meal for only Euro 10. For addresses go to previous reviews. A new tip: For the bigger shops go to a street called Via Cola di Rienzo. Go left outside the appartments, first right, cross big street Via Crescenzio, walk two blocks and find Via Cola di Rienzo. Go right on this street and find a store called COIN and find in the basement a big supermarket. On wednesday morning at 10.45 AM the Pope is on St Peter square. From the apartment you can walk to Trevi fountain in about 40 minutes.

We found the Borgo Pio 2000 via Expedia after a lengthy search for places to stay in Rome. We were booking our trip quite late and wanted a convenient place to stay that was affordable. The Borgo Pio fit that bill.

My husband and I were traveling with my parents, so we reserved one of the one bedroom apartments with the fold-out bed in the separate room.

We had them send a limo driver to the airport to pick us up. At 50 Euros for the trip, it was worth it (compared with 11E per person for the airport train to Termini and then additional fees for the metro). He was waiting for us outside of customs and took us to the Borgo Pio safely. Upon arrival, our room was ready (despite the fact we got there at 10 in the morning!). We were able to unpack, settle, and then go out to enjoy most of the day until we were exhausted from jet lag.

The Borgo Pio is within great walking distance to the Vatican and a great place to stay if that is one of your primary activities. We didn't take the train or the bus at all. We are all fit, so we figured that the walk across the Tiber to the other parts of Rome would do us good (and work off some of that great Italian food!).

For lunches and breakfast, we were able to get a few goods at the nearby market. We felt very safe and secure and our rooms were quiet. We kept the windows open at night and were surprised to have calm in the middle of Rome! Though the Borgo Pio is not fancy, it was a great place for us to park ourselves during our stay in Rome. The separate rooms were perfect for our family and the little kitchen was great for preparing simple meals of breakfast and lunch.

As long as you look at the map of Rome before booking at the Borgo Pio and you know what to expect, you'll have a great time!

  • Liked — The convenience to the Vatican
  • Disliked — The mattress on the bed!
