We recently returned from 3 nights at the Portrait Suites. It was the most expensive hotel we've ever stayed at but well worth the cost. We arrived in the morning and were delighted to learn that our room was not only ready but that we were upgraded to a suite. The room was fantastic - spacious and well appointed. Although there was no view from our room, we enjoyed the roof top terrace which had an amazing view. In addition to the quality of the room, we found the staff to be exceptionally friendly and helpful. The staff helped us book private tours of Rome and the Vatican. The private tours were worth every penny. I would definitely stay at the Portrait Suites again. Lastly, the location can't be beat - just a block away from the Spanish steps.

If you like hotels that have the feel of a private residence, this is the place for you in Rome. The Portrait Suites consist of 15 rooms (three per floor). Their entrance that does not draw attention, and there is no reception desk. After having been greeted at the door, you will be welcomed in a private lounge on the first floor. One literally feels at home there.

The small size of this hotel also means that there is no restaurant. In my view, this is okay, since there are so many great places to eat all around. There are also no pool and no spa, but some rooms are equipped with a private sauna and a mini-gym (which in my view is much better).

The location is great (especially if you like shopping: Ferragamo, Gucci, Prada, and all the others are within immediate reach) and very central (two minutes from the Spanish Steps), and there is a fantastic rooftop terrace with a unique view over all Rome.

Only one negative point should be noted: soundproofing of the rooms could be significantly better.

Can't say enough good things about this hotel!!! We loved the location, it's literally a few steps from the Spanish Steps. The rooms are spotless, beds are extremely comfortable and completely soundproofed. The staff is equal to that in a five star hotel.
We're stopping in Rome for a few nights at the end of a trip we're taking this June and I'm so sad this property is already booked. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat!

If you're looking for a luxury boutique hotel that's spotlessly clean with exemplary service, look no further!

Portrait Suites is really a great property. The service is top notch - all of the staff are incredibly welcoming and helpful, and they really make you feel at home. The room (number 53) was thoughtfully laid out and nicely decorated, with lots of storage space and a little kitchenette and table, large bathroom with a deep tub and really nice shower. TV (large flat screen) is nice, and although channels are limited, the DVD player in the room helped - just bought a bunch of Italian films with English subtitles to watch in the room. The room also had a nice balcony overlooking Via Condotti. The rooftop terrace (with cozy fireplace!) is spectacular, with views of the Spanish Steps and much of Rome.

The one drawback at Portrait Suites is that save for the continental breakfast (which is just okay), there is no room service. Generally not a problem in Rome where great food is ample, but occasionally missed. Even thought it is a small hotel, it would be great if they could make an arrangement with another nearby hotel or a restaurant to deliver to guests.

My husband and I had the real pleasure of staying at the Portrait Suites for five days this past month and I really cannot say enough about the property. From the minute you check in the staff makes you feel like you are the only guests. The rooms are perfectly appointed - from the mohair sofa to the Ferragamo fabric lining the drapery. Vintage shoes in cases and lithographs of shoe designs(Ferragamo of course)decorate the walls. We had a deluxe studio with a kitchenette, a big walk thru closet and huge bath. My in-laws were traveling with us and their room was the superior studio and it was just as lovely but not as big. But the service was the best part of the stay. When they say anything you need, they mean it and it is a phone call away. The roof top terrace was amazing with a full honor bar and a cozy fireplace for cocktails after a long day of touring. They give you the option of paying 20E a day for unlimited use of the honor bar but we chose not to take it. And then there is the location. It is about 20 ft off the Via Condotti and easy walking distance to a ton of great restaurants. It was a little expensive but worth every penny and will be my first choice the next time I am in Rome.
