booked the hotel and got confirmation
then went travelling and not able to access my emails
they email me (admittedly next day) - but i cannot get my emails to cancel the confirmed booking....then eventually 8 days later they phone me (they had my number all along) to tell me the day before i was due to travel to rome that my booking is cancelled - so i am left with no hotel - i give them 6 hours to get back to me with a new hotel - they get back to in 7 hours when i have already through the tourist office found a new (and more expensive ) place to say
so my advice is if you want to try this hotel - either phone them to confirm the booking or check you emails daily

We arrived in the middle of a heat wave and woke up in the early hours, sweat running down our backs, to realize that the A/C came with a 5 hour timer. Also, the common areas where the plants grow so happily in all that humidity, are not air conditioned. This is where the lone ancient PC is set and where it systematically died every time we tried to use it. Breakfast consisted of vouchers to al little cafe' up the block, past the man peeing against the wall, graffitti and next to tthe overflowing dumpsters. Breakfast consisted of coffee and a roll. There were other options, but only for those early enough to beat the rush of people with vouchers from the nearby hostel. Worst of all was the staff who repeatedly harassed us with threats when we went in to cancel the remainder of our reservation. Five minute walk to the coliseum, yes.

Clean, stylish, excellent and free access to Internet via WLAN, kind personnel, peaceful environment.
Enjoyed my walk from Termini to San Jouan in a shade of trees, as well as the one afterwards to Colosseum and other great places in Rome.
Very pleasant experience in San Jouan guest house. Hope to visit the place again.

If you are looking for a more authentic stay in Rome, San Jouan Guest House is the place for you! My husband and I came for 8 nights and met up with his parents who also stayed at San Jouan. We are 26 and his parents are in their 50's and we all had an amazaing experience! The staff is exquisite from Roberto to Anna to Nestor and Stefany each had their own personality and were more than willing to answer the plethora of questions the tourists had to offer. San Jouan pays amazing attention to detail in the style of the home. The bed and breakfast itself is in a very secure and safe courtyard which you can only gain access to with a key given to you upon check-in. The hotel itself feels very safe and we often left our doors unlocked while touring with no concern for our belongings. There is also someone available to the patrons 24/7 in case of emergencies.

Although this is called a bed and breakfast, the actual breakfast is served off site in your choice of two cafe's less than a minuet walk. We tried both and made the decision that the "BAR" was more hospitable and service oriented and everything was delicious!...the breakfast cafe on the corner past the "BAR" (your second choice) is stuck up and less than excited to serve the English speaking patrons.

The area around San Jouan is very Italian....not everyone speaks English but keep trying to communicate because eventually you will find a common understanding. I have to say that going to the crowded hustle and bustle of the tourist spots and then coming home to a quite sanctuary was very soothing.

They offer free wireless internet which was amazing for us but they also have a computer with internet that all patrons can use free of charge. Although we did not utilize this feature this time around, they offer two mopeds to check out in order to travel around the city with more ease. I think that walking is part of the amazing charm of this city but mopeds may also provide an experience in itself if you like. Oh and two last touches, free bottled water and air condition controlled in each room.

There is no question in our minds that when we return to Rome, San Jouan will invite us back with open arms. We would not dare stay anywhere else!!

  • Liked — Service, hospitality, and comfort
  • Disliked — Would be nice if coffee was offered at the hotel itself
