On arrival to Matisse B&B we rang the door bell and we where told to leave the foyer (this is the beautiful picture as advertised which is merely the entrance to hotels & businesses) A man came up from behind us and asked where we ringing for Matisse B&B he then informed us that they had "over booked" and they would accommodate us in another hotel in a "better" more "convenient" part of the city just a "few" streets away.
Having just travelled a very long distance, walked in 35degree heat we where exhausted and confused on arrival as we had informed the owner of our arrival time exactly who had ample opportunity to make us aware of any new arrangements. He then took us in a taxi to a derelict building which was apparently the more superior "B&B."
We discussed how unhappy we where with the arrangements and we had been promised to speak with the owner Roberto who was apparently out on business.
Early the next morning we got awakened by a lady shoving a mobile telephone in my face telling me to speak to Roberto, when discussing the arrangements Roberto suddenly lost all under standing of English and ignored all concerns.
We carried on our stay unsure of what the outcome would be. (The B&B is relatively clean with a breakfast of tap water, carrot & orange juice and cereal) The location is close to the Colosseum but the area seemed unnerving.
We where approached when entering the building on our final evening by both Roberto and his colleague to discuss payment, we addressed our concerns only to be mocked and laughed at and told our opinions do not matter, When they both realised how seriously we where pressing these issues they then deducted the payment of our city tax. This took 30 minutes of absurd arguing over a reception desk at the end of what was meant to be our last evening of a month long trip.
When four young girls travelling alone expressed their concern towards getting into a taxi with a strange man off the street with no prior notification we where mocked and laughed at. Having worked in the hospitality industry and having studied hospitality as a group we are left utterly disgusted at this experience and it has well and truly brought down our impression of Italy.
Congratulations Matisse B&B.
