The service was great. The staff made arrangements for restaurants, taxis, and museums that were wonderful. The room was on the small side but the bed was comfortable. We did not spend much time in the room so the size was not that important. The mini bar was stocked with drinks that were free of charge. The hotel had a nice exercise room with showers. They had 2 computers in the lobby that you could use for a nominal fee. The location was perfect. It was a short 5 - 10 minute walk to either the train station or metro station. The breakfast was good. There was nothing that we did not like about this hotel. We would definetly recommend it to others.

1st, I would have to agree with all of the reviews that rave about the cleanliness of the hotel, the cheerful and helpful staff, and the excellent location near Termini station (which is the central transportation hub for Rome). The breakfast buffet turned out to be the best of the three hotels that we stayed in during our pre-cruise week in Italy.

There were a few disappointments, though. It is a very nice gesture that the hotel provides a stocked mini-fridge (water and soda); however, the mini-fridge never managed to cool the items enough to make them refreshing. We asked if they had diet soda (my husband is an insulin-dependent diabetic), and were told "no", but they'd try to get some. We stayed 4 nights and never saw a diet soda the entire time. The bed was as hard as a rock, which might appeal to some, but I found it difficult to get comfortable. (I nick-named our mattress "the plank"). The biggest disappointment was the promise of "air conditioning"...we stayed in Rome during an unusual heat wave for May. It was in the high 90's (farenheit) with high humidity. The room A/C never put out much cool air, and we were always soaked with sweat before we even made it out the front door in the morning. I've heard many excuses about why the hotels in Rome have such lousy air conditioning, but none of them are believable. We stayed 3 nights in Pompei after we left Rome, and while the hotel in Pompei had it's own problems, air conditioning was not one of them! We were able to cool our Pompei room to the point that it could have done double-duty as a meat locker!!!

Except for the problems mentioned above, all other aspects of the Hotel Diocleziano were enjoyable. They have a nice gym and sauna, a small bar, as well as attentive and friendly staff. If you like a really firm mattress, don't mind the heat, and prefer your drinks at room temperature, then you will have absolutely no problems with this hotel.

This was a good hotel and great value in Rome. The service at the hotel was excellent. While the rooms were small (by American standards) they were clean and updated. The hotel is in a good location with all of the main Roman attractions within walking or short transit trip away from the Hotel.

We spent three days at the Diocleziano in late May and had a grand time there. It's amazing how a hotel can be so close to the main train station in a world capital and still be quiet and almost cloistered. While no more than a 10 minute walk from Termini, the Diocleziano sits on a side street with very little traffic. When you step in the front door, the feeling is one of mellow comfort. Rooms are quiet, tasteful and functional with well-appointed bathrooms. Other reviewers have made mention of the free mini-bar, certainly a nice touch. The buffet breakfast is excellent, with great variety and fresh ingredients. There is a small, but aparatus-filled, gym and two computers are available for complimentary use on the ground floor. All of these contribute to the good feelings I have about the hotel. But the separator is the hospitality and service that the staff exhibits. On numerous occasions, the desk clerks were helpful and the entire staff seemed genuinely happy to assist. Ironically, I chose the Diocleziano because of the proximity to the train station and ended up using hired drivers to get us from the airport and to the port of Civitavecchia (both of which the hotel arranged). However, I wouldn't have changed my selection for an instant. My wife and I look forward to returning here again on our next trip to Rome. (Note: easy walking distance to Galleria Borghese, Spanish Steps, some great churches by Bernini and Borromini, and more.)
