Our stay in Surprising in Rome was extremely pleasant and enjoyable. Everything from its price, location and interior decor was fantastic. The greatest thing about the B&B is its central location; located just a few hundred meters away from the Vatican, Piazza Navona, the Trevi Fountain and Pantheon, its so convenient it allows for a quick nap between sightseeing! The B&B has a very authentic Italian character, which can be seen in the amazing furniture, the marble hallways, the big windows and spacious rooms. The service provided by the two hosts, Guiseppi and Julia, was outstanding. They were both friendly and helpful in all matters. Our room, as well as the whole apartment, was spotless and there was always an abundance of food, snacks for the sightseeing and a variety of drinks; breakfast, which is provided, was great! Although the bathrooms are not en-suite, they are right across the rooms and we, personally did not lack privacy or comfort.
A little suggestion for those who do not plan on tacking too much luggage, there are two busses that leave Termini train station and stop directly in front of the B&B, they are the 40, which is express and 64, which is local. They are extremely convenient and very frequent; they are also cheaper than tacking a cab from Termini. A single bus fair costs 1 euro, a cab ride costs around 12 euros (depending on traffic, which is horrendous in the city), its not an enormous saving, but Rome is an extremely expensive city, but definitely worth it.

This was the loveliest B&B my fiance and I had ever come accross.
The owners were extremely hospitable and we were central to EVERYTHING!
Breakfast was divine and the fantastic furniture and rooms add a great Italian feel to the trip.
Would recomend to anyone as a nice weekend getaway

After much sleuthing online, we decided to go with Surprising in Rome for our first ever trip to this unbelievable city. After an exciting taxi ride from the airport (which is only a few Euros more than if we had taken the train, then bussed, because of the price cap), we ended up in the heart of Rome, right on Corso Vittorio Emmanuele II.

Surprising in Rome is basically our host Giuseppe's apartment. There are two bedrooms for guests, (and ours was spacious, and comfy), and two bathrooms - one room gets one (which just has a shower), and the other room gets the other (which has a bath/shower). Both were fine - we had the small one until we were the only people there. The only issue with the bathrooms is that they are at the end of the hall - being pregnant and having to make several trips a night, this wasn't ideal, but we dealt.

There is a cute little kitchen at the end of the hall, with the continental breakfast set out at all times. We could have used the stove too, but never did. Giuseppe was so great about finding gluten-free breakfast treats for me (not easy in a town that thrives on pasta!), and we did not go hungry. We also had access to the internet whenever we wanted, and lots of tourist guides, etc.

Surprising in Rome is within perfect walking distance of everything...5 minutes to Castel Sant'Angelo, 15 minutes from the Vatican, 25 minutes from Ancient Rome, 25-30 minutes from the Via del Corso (the big shopping district) and the Borghese Gardens, and only a 30 minute walk to Trastavere for the amazing flea market on Sunday. We couldn't have had a better location for seeing the sites.

The one drawback is the street noise - you are on a very busy street. If you are used to city noises, this shouldn't be too big a deal, although they seem to do construction work at all hours, and the traffic never stops! Tire yourself out from touring, and wear earplugs.

The price, the location, and the comfort of having an apartment instead of just a tiny hotel room make this B&B worth it. Giuseppe is friendly, and will direct you to some awesome restaurants and sites in the area (check out Antica Taverna - affordable and delicious food, really close by). There are also a couple of great pizza places downstairs.

  • Disliked — Street noise.

This is wonderful B&B with well decorated, spacious, clean bedrooms (one of the most comfortable beds we have ever slept in), and marble bathrooms. Guiseppe is a FANTASTIC host, he greeted us with a bottle of wine and sat down with us to map out walking tours, great restaurant suggestions, and unique spots to experience traditional Rome, all catered to our preferences and intentions for the weekend. He provided an excellent breakfast laid out with many options, and kept fresh bread, cheese, and meats for our afternoon snack. The view of the street from the 4th floor room is great and the location is prime! The bus to the train station stops directly in front of the building, but besides heading to/from the airport we never needed transportation. The BandB is centrally located (seriously about a 15/20 min walk everywhere) to the can't miss sights (Piazza Navona, Pantheon, Fontana di Trevi, Spanish Steps, the Vatican, the Roman Forum/Colluseum, Trastevere, Tiber River) and great side streets with small, authentic restaurants and shops. It is just steps from Campo De Fiori which was our favorite Piazza to end the night- lots of restaurants and cafes with all the locals. We went just for a quick weekend trip, and I am convinced our wonderful time was made possible by Guiseppe! We would not even consider staying somewhere else next time in Rome. Price is also very reasonable considering all of the conveniences and attention you receive. By the end of the weekend we were ready to move in!

  • Liked — location! convenience! personal attention!
  • Disliked — that I couldn't stay there longer!

This B&B was our best stay in Italy. Surprising in Rome B&B (SRBB) is located on Corso Vittorio Emanuele, on the fourth floor of a beautiful 19th century, six story building. There is a lift, but I prefered climbing the magnificent marble staircase. Our room was very spacious, very clean, and very modern. Noise did seep in through the window at night since Vittorio Emanuele is a very buisy street. However, this did not bother us.

The location is prime. It is near and between Piazza Navona (10 mns. walking) and the Vatican (15 mns. walking). There are affordable shops all around. Exiting the building, there is a pretty good restaurant immediately to your left. To the right, there is a pizzeria, and next to that, a small grocery store.

The best part of SRBB is Guiseppe, the owner. Upon arriving, he warmly greeted us, and then sat us down with a map for about 45 mns. pointing out the best ways to get to the "main attractions," good restaurants, where to get "very special" pizza, and the best gelato in town. To top it all off, Guiseppe asks you what time you want breakfast the next morning. Then, when you wake up, he cooks you eggs and serves you fresh bread, cheeses, and sometimes meats that he gets fresh from the nearby market every morning. Of course there is also coffe, tea, juice, milk. (Just for my husband and I he filled every square inch of the dining table every morning). He was very helpful with everything we needed. Further, you have access to this kitchen/dining area if you want to store beverages in the fridge or whatever.

Also, the price is excellent. We could not find anywhere comparable to stay in this area for less than 200 Euro. SRBB was about 120 Euro/night. (One note - you do have a private bathroom, but it is not en suite. This did not bother us). If we are fortunate enough to visit Rome again, we will definitely stay at Surprising in Rome.
