Spent 3 nights at the Hotel Alimandi Vaticano in Rome earlier this month and would definitely stay there again, particularly if my focus were again on St. Peter's and the Vatican. The staff were all efficient and gracious. I am especially appreciative of how they handled my airport shuttle booking. I had arranged (via e-mail) for a 10:00AM airport shuttle pick-up, based on my flight's scheduled arrival time from New York -- figured I'd have at least an hour's wait, but didn't want to book an earlier shuttle and then miss it. Turns out that my flight arrived almost an hour early -- I called the hotel as soon as I cleared Customs, and they told me that the driver was outside, already waiting for me. They'd been monitoring my flight and sent the shuttle out early -- a much-appreciated kindness, especially on a cold and rainy day.
My room was large, even by US standards -- two queen beds with plenty of room leftover, plus two large armoires and a patio overlooking the entrance to the Vatican Museums. The bathroom was also above-average in size, with all new fixtures kept spotlessly clean. Breakfast included a huge array of baked goods, an ample selection of eggs and meats, plus cereal and yogurts, tended to by attentive but low-key staff in a large and cheery breakfast room fronting the Museum entrance.
Only one small negative -- the ice machine was on the same floor, two doors away from my room, and it was occasionally loud enough to interrupt this jet-lagged traveler's sleep. Suggest that it be relocated or enclosed. Otherwise, my stay at the Alimandi was just about perfect.
