On the ground floor is the Hotel Corallo, but upstairs is Yellow Hostel, a place for the discerning budget traveller with lots of character, funky colours and very friendly and helpful staff who speak an amazing array of languages. We were happy to come to a place where very good English was spoken!
Yellow has a really comfortable lounge which turns into a bar and movie room at night. They also arrange something to do every night - Pub Crawl, Pub on the River etc. and their recommended Rome(ing) tours operates two fantastic tours of the old town - (go to the front desk and ask them) - one is St Peter's Cathedral/Vatican/Sistine Chapel and the other is of the Forum/Colluseum/Pantheon. I went on the Vatican tour and the tour guide (Chris) was an absolutely amazing walking encyclopedia of facts and fun over four hours. Check out his Star Wars imitation!
We met tons of travellers there, the price was pretty average and the kitchen was clean. Lots of people cooked meals in the evening. We had our full juice container stolen out of the fridge which was annoying. The free internet rocked. Dorms are not segregated and we were the only two women in with 7 other men. The only thing I was a bit concerned about was the safety, (even though there are lockable bins under the beds and lockers) because other people had passports/credit cards stolen while we were there. There are key cards to get into the dorms section and you have to ring to get in at night (no curfew and open all day). Check in is at 1pm which is a bit of pain because in most places check-out is 10am. but there is a rack where you can store your bags.
