“5 STAR HOSTEL & PLACE I MET MY HUSBAND!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2006

Ok I was staying in Rome in my own apartment then I had to leave at very short notice as the person who owned it was coming back so I was out on my ear! I found the Yellow Hostel and went by to check it out, I was amazed! I have never stayed in a hostel before and was very pleased. I was there for 6 nights and had a dorm with 7 other people, the room was en-suite so it was great as there was a shower. The shower was great and was cleaned most days. Everything was super clean, the sheets were great too! Under the beds there were lockers so you could put your bags away, I padlocked my stuff up and had no problems. Also there is an electronic keycard for the room.
The lounge area is so fun and bright, with red, green and yellow walls, a big LCD TV. The staff are super nice and can help with any questions you have. The kitchen area is amazing too, with pots and pans that you wash after you are finished with them. If you want to put food in the 2 big fridges then just put a sticker on it and your good to go. The location is on the good side of Termini (the main train station) Other hostel's on the bad side are bad... stay away and go to the Yellow! To be honest I could go on about the Yellow Hostel! I even met my husband there too!!! I've also been back since then! It's just a great find in Roma! 5 STARS!!!!!

“I found what I was looking for”

Stayed here for a few days. Didnt know what to expect, as I had heard some stories about hotels in Rome. However, I had read that this hostel was one of the most popular in the world.
Was very easy to find from Termini station, and the staff in the bright and colourful reception were more than helpful. They had personalised maps. Corridors to the rooms were bright too. The place had a 'clean' feel to it. I would highly recommend it. A nice beer in the reception was very relaxing.

“Not the greatest”

I see why some backpackers or yound travellers would enjoy the YELLOW. It is located in a nice part of Rome and has access to doing laundry (at the hostel assuming one of the machines is not broken or right outside at a laundromat), and computers. Getting on a comp to check email may be difficult as in the summertime the place is crawling with people.....mostly from the US but also from a variety of other nations. My boyfriend and I stayed there for almost a week, in a room with eight other people. If you are looking to get a good nights' sleep after sightseeing or partying this is NOT the place. It can be loud as well as a bit uncomfortable if you land a bed in a room with all those people. Showering in the morning is a bit challenging as well because the water has a tendency to get cold fast (and think of all the people who need a shower). The place is generally clean but I would not stay there again. If you can sleep anywhere (loud musice, voices, lights, snoring) then you would enjoy this place and a room with even 8 to 10 people. However if you are not travelling to party, party, party or hang out with peers from the US all the time then look elsewhere. You will want a calm, nice place to return to after an exhausting day in Rome, especially in the heat of the Italian summer. I also had the bad luck of getting sick so that put a damper on my mood for staying in a hostel. Note this: if you want to take advantage of keeping your stuff safe in a locker than do not bring a big bag..........only a large backpack will fit........other bags won't and you may have to carry your valuables around with you which can be annoying but I would not leave them unattended, unlocked in a place like this.

“is as good as the reviews”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2006

Ok, so I read reviews for this hostel on a few sites and they all said good things, but I thought it couldn't be that good. Well it is. I stayed in a room with 6 bunks (20euro/night) with ensuite bathroom (the only problem with the hostel - no towel hooks in the bathroom/shower!!). The room was clean and warm and everything I expected.

The common areas were clean and nice and the DVD player got used a lot (walk round Rome til 4.30-5ish and then crash out with a few dvds, beers and people from around the world, the best!)

The kitchen was a kitchen!

The breakfast (inc. in price) is brill and not promoted enough by the offical website. Rolls, meat, cheese, yoghurt, cereal, juice, fruit, tea, coffee.... eat lots in the morning and then gang up with some people and cook piles of pasta in the evening (eating out in Rome is expensive).

Visit the tourist attractions (Col./Forum, Vatican, Trevi) at night when they are lit up and looking very impressive!

Yellow Hostel: well worth going to if you are in Rome.

PS They accept credit cards but charge 5 euros for the priv. (though given the exchange rate my CC gave was still cheaper than cash!)
